Excluding any antique car owners out there, what is the oldest
car you ever owned?
My 2007 Rav4 is 14yrs this year. Apparently there is a lot of
corrosion in the underbody by now. I regret that I never
bothered with undercoat treatment. Other than that, it only has 111,164km on it.
Just wondering what is the norm in terms of max age of vehicle
amongst the drivers here.

I leased it originally. Then in 2012 I bought out the lease.

Hello All,
Excluding any antique car owners out there, what is the oldest
car you ever owned?
I had a 1956 Dodge in high school, bout it for $250 becasue it was so old and ugly.
Presently I have a 1961 Panhard PL-17 Sedan as my oldest car I currently own.
My first car was a 1970 something Vega. A real POS, but I loved that car!
After a few years I upgraded to a 240ZX, that was a real beauty!
Now I have a Chevy Sonic. It's a great little car.
My 2007 Rav4 is 14yrs this year. [...] it only has
111,164km on it.
That's not many miles. I am all for getting all the miles
out I can after I have paid for a car. After a while an
older car can cost more money and down time that it's worth
though, so it's a judgement call when it should be
replaced.
My daily driver is a 2000 Toyota 4Runner, with about
225,000 miles on it. It's still purring like a kitten. ;)
My wife, who doesn't drive much, has a 1980 Toyota Corolla
sitting in the driveway. That did need an engine rebuild
about 8 years ago. She loves that car. :)
I stick with a vehicle until it really starts to cost more
money to operate than it's worth.

That's a nice run. How's the body holding up? Have you had it undercoated every year?

The rotors would tend to corrode with infrequent driving. I
suppose those (and calipers) have been replaced on that Corolla
a few times?
Yeah.. There is point when repairs seem to be more frequent
than long stretches of hassle-free driving.

How old were those cars before you replaced them?
I just finished paying a $3500 (after tax) bill for suspension
work. But I never had any large bills for the 10 years prior.
I just did oil changes, and winter/summer tire swaps.

My oldest in terms of model year was a 1977 Chevy Nova, my first car. Sold it when I left for college and regretted it forever.

I've had a lot of old/high mileage cars. My current daily is a 1992 Jeep Cherokee with 355,000 on it. It's on borrowed time though, for sure.
Mine was a 72 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale - a tank on
wheels! Even had one of those (at the time) new fangled 8
track tape players hidden inside the face of the HiFi AM
radio <G>

I had a 2nd-hand Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham 4-door
Sedan around 1993?, but I don't remember what year the vehicle
was. Probably 8 years old at the time.
The Olds was a solid performer though. Velour seats, power
seats, power-everything actually.
Last year, I sold my first car, a Citroen C3 which I bought
new in 2007, so I had it for 13 years.
It was in the age where many things started to break. I had
some things fixed but the list of things that should be
fixed "in the next few years" got longer and longer, so I
decided that a new (used) car would probably be cheaper
(and more reliable) in the long run.
And for ~3 years, from 2014-2017, I've owned a Citroen 2CV
from 1989 where I fixed and updated some things during that
time.
I can now appreciate the benefit in maintaining rust-proofing
undercoat for a car that one would want to keep using beyond 8
yrs, atleast. But I never thought that 8+ yrs would be my
result.
The mechanical lever (right along the cabin floor) that pulls
on a cable to open the door for the gas tank corroded right
off. I've been using a pair of pliers to grab what little that
is left to clamp on to.
The original battery lasted 10 years!
That 2CV looks like a funky oversized Volkswagen beetle. :D
Just out of curiosity, anyone ever own an Opal? <G>
If so how was it to drive? I'm sure nothing like a Corvette.

My car is over 20 years old (2001). Had it since 2010.

That's interesting. How many kms? I suppose Australian winter
weather is pretty gentle on your car and roads?

It was. I didn't find out until years later that the '92-'94 European version had a Cosworth engine and made 224 hp and 224 ftlb of torque!
1970 Dodge Dart - 340ci 4 barrel, headers, 727 trans, 8 3/4 rear 4.10 ration 1970 Charger - 426ci Hemi dual 4 barrels
1971 Charger 383ci 4 barrel, dual exhaust
Man I would have loved to ridden in those cars! I sub to a Youtube channel called Cars and Zebras. They showcase dragstrip runs of cars in the Factory Stock class. From what I have seen the cars must be original to the factory offering for that year. The last one I watched was a 71 Chevelle 454 Ci racing a 69 Olds Cutlass with a 350 Ci engine. It is
like Saturday night in the 70's to watch these vids.
