Is it possible to use an external editor, like GoldED, to read/write messages? While the BBS internal editor is nice, it is not as comfortable as I remember eg. CrossPoint in message handling.
Does somebody use another editor and has it configured to use the Mystic messagebase?
I've heard (from my FidoNet uplink) that Mystic has some problems with MIS/BinkP crashing and using up 100% CPU when a BinkP connection is incoming - and some sysops switched to using an external BinkP daemon.
Is this still a problem in recent versions of Mystic and something to worry about?

Yes. I use golded with hpt but you could do that with Mystic too.
Mutil has an option to export an areas.bbs file so you can use that to hel golded setup. It might need tweaking but the bulk of it is there.
I've run Mystic on both Windows and now the Raspberry Pi and I've not
had any issues (that I know of) with crashing or high CPU usage.

I haven't experienced these kind of problems. Mystic's built in tosser[...]
and mailer are simple and effective.
I don't think so, use the tosser and/or mailer of your choice.
Also, Mystic has an internal ansi editor that you might find useful.

Thank you for the hint with the area.bbs export!
I will try that.
Also the font function of TheDraw! is nice :)
I've also looked around mutil.ini and did not find this "areas.bbs" exportfunction.
As aunt Google tells me, this seems to be an option for an older tool whereMUTIL is the successor to.
I saw in another post you couldn't find the option in mutil. It's
label in mutil.ini is Export_AREAS.BBS but it was just added to mutil recently in one of the A47 prealpha's.
Ah, that's a good reason why I couldn't find it :)
Thanks for the hint!
I will then reflect about it and decide whether I install the prealpha
or do it in some other way.

Is there another tool to get such an export of the message bases?
In my /mystic, this is a stock mutil.ini file that gives a description
of this function... I could copy and paste it; but maybe you're on an earlier version of Mystic than a46??? That would explain why its not there.
I do run the prealpha myself but no one relies on that BBS for anything
at all so I never need to worry if problems crop up.
In my experience the prealphas are quite stable but that is where new features are added so that is where "stuff" happens. If problems do show up they are also fixed quickly but you have to keep it upto date, so depending on your situation you may oe may not want to run a prealpha.
I might also try a look at SynchroNet and compare it against Mystic... :)
