• Setting up QWK Networking?

From Nodoka Hanamura@21:2/106 to All on Wed Oct 2 11:24:46 2019
    Hey there,

I'm trying to get DOVE-Net going on my BBS with mixed results. I've followed the instructions on Synchro.net to the best of my ability keeping in mind
that i'm running Mystic and not Synchronet, and the last step evades me - How do I go about issuing a network callout on a QWK network?

qwkpoll is what your looking for, qwkpoll 1 (or 2, or all) once your QWK networks are setup in the config. Be sure to set the QWK network and QWK Base ID in the message areas as well.. :)

Yeah, I actually checked that out and realized there was an existing event
for that - Why I didn't remember was beyond me.

There's quite a few details to remeber when setting up.. :)

Mystic doesn't support the <CTRL>A codes that Synchronet uses so you'll want to
either strip them or convert them to ansi. Set that by telneting into the hub node and setting as you prefer.

You'll probably want to use QWKE so you get longer subject lines and name fields too. It's not necessary but nicer.. set that up both in Mystic's config for the QWK network hub and in your setting at the hub.

I probably should fix that, would explain why Syncrhonet's not playing nice with the messages, they were coming back corrupt.

I honestly thought QWKE was required to be disabled. I'll fix that.

Synchronet BBSs don't need it, they use messages.dat but Mystic doesn't know how to use it so QWKE is a good option for Mystic BBSs.

    I said messages.dat, but I meant headers.dat.. :)

For Synchronet, yes, because Synchronet to Synchronet QWK transfers don't rely on QWKE features. They use other data that's exchanged for long subjects, etc.
