Would you consider adding an errorlevel/exit code to Fidopoll so I can tell if any traffic was Received? I would use this in a batch file after
a single session/node poll. I have no need for Sent or Skipped files myself {shrug}. I'm
aware of the echomail.out semaphore IF it ALWAYS exists for set period
of time before getting deleted?
echomail.in (created when stuff is received) exists forever, until a Semaphore event executes that is configured to delete it, or MUTIL's echomail import is executed which will delete it at the end.
So it always exists until something meaningful removes it.
I suppose I could add an exit level also, but I worry that people will
see that in the MIS Event window being a non-zero value and then think that FIDOPOLL is not working properly.
BTW...Paul...thank you for the suggestion...but decided that just going back to the Windows version. Having a problem one right after another
was taking the fun out of it.

Has anyone come up with Fidopoll disappearing from the main folder?
Went back to Windows 32-bit today with all the issues I was having with Raspbian.
Made a back up of the Linux folder of the BBS to an SD card. One of the things which threw me was the only program missing was Fidopoll. Had
this happen about a month ago...but replaced it with a copy I put on
the C: drive the last time this happened. The worst thing was even as
an administrator...couldn't copy the file over until I rebooted.
That sounds like a Windows file locking issue. Windows file locking can be horrible to deal with. Something must have had it open.

Look like it's time to borrow the giant metal snips from work. ;)
Have found that restarting the beast allows me to recopy the files back into the folder from an open copy elsewhere on the drive.
And that's a sure sign of file locking issues. A better solution is to find what's holding the files open and addressing that.

Haven't had a problem in the last few days...but when it happens...will see what is running. Have a feeling WWIV software may be doing it when
I have a chance to work on it.
You running both on the same machine with some common directories?
My Mystic and Synchronet installations are totally separate, except for sitting on the same Pi. They even talk to each other via binkp
sessions. :)

Nope...except for where the files are located locally on the box. Both
are in separate folders...except for sharing files to download. Even
have the BinkP & BBS login use different ports...like Mystic uses 7788
& WWIV uses 7878...with WWIV set up with something like 24557...with Mystic on 24554.
Just had a thought that I could set all my files for both systems off
of the root folder where neither are part of the BBS...but reachable by both. This way...not keeping a double set of files in each BBS.
Love showing my Homer Simpson moment with asking if you have 1 instance
of BinkP being used by both??? Would love to hear how you're doing it.
Are you using either one as a point off whichever one is being used as your main node?
That's the "usual" way. I'm using the same ports, but multiple IP addresses.
Mystic is a point off SBBS for Fidonet (for one echo!), SBBS is a node that uses Mystic as a hub for a few nets, and there's nets (e.g. FSX) where they don't talk to each other at all, just the hub. :)

That makes sense. Just set mine up to use the acmebbs name from
ddns...but on different ports. For myself...the simplest way.

Very nice setup!
to support RLOGIN that also will do the same... As for Message bases, I share all of my local Message bases via a network. I created my own Network for my 2 boards and when someone posts a message on 1 board it gets sent to the other and vice versa.. It's a lot of fun...
Depends who you're making it simpler for - for users and other systems, keeping everything on standard or at least the same port is more important, but the downside is more complexity for the sysop. :)
Nice setup. Was thinking about running WWIV as a point off of my
networks. Got any websites with the info to do what you are doing?
works great. I share a few networks with it.. Let me know what interests you of my setup and I could put together a pdf of what and how I did things..

Like the idea of it. Right now...tomorrow is my last day the rest of
the month to be at work at 6 AM...up at 3:45 AM. You could be here
holding my hand & pointing out how to do it...I'd fall asleep on you.
Remember talking to a nurse at my doctor's office last month. Mentioned that taking one of my meds in the morning doesn't work for me...since I can't take it at the same time everyday with this stupid schedule. She asked if this would keep me awake at night & I asked her how many times she has caught me sleeping in the waiting room waiting to be seen. She laughed especially when I asked for a way to mainline caffeine
directly.
I would be interested in learning how to set up a point. Have noticed playing around with WWIV last night that the network setup was very similar to what I have done with Mystic.

In fact it is easy, I just looked at the config and all you need to do
is add the point number to where you add in the node id.. I will netmail you the info since it's pretty straight forward...
Love it!!! The one thing I was hoping coming back to BBS'ing was to have others with the knowledge who are happy to share with you. This is what makes me look forward to getting back on the boards after I get out of
the salt mines.
Well I don't have the knowledge.. In fact if it weren't for the folks on this network I would have 0 knowledge about this software.. Give me my
and putting up a File Server.. If it weren't for his ideas and help I would know about nothing when it comes to setting up servers and bat
files and all that stuff! I used to use bat files when I was working in DOS back in the 90's and never used them again when I went Win95, he turned me back on to them. Now? I have a bat file that runs every night
at midnight which copies my log files out of the Mystic Directory to another directory, and on Sunday mornings at 2 it zips up all the files
in that directory and names it with a date and copies it to another

This is true. Newer versions of Windows I believe are much better than old (Win7+)

Cool, that sounds like an improvement. :)

Hah to each their own. I meant specifically with file locking,
although maybe our experiences there are different too :)
