    Hi all,

as some may have noticed, I've got a somewhat noisy user on my BBS. This is a person with certain personal challenges but is harmless.

I understand they can be a nuisance, so I have deactivated their account for now, but I'd very much like to know what is considered appropriate for a
sysop to do in such a case. I'd like to handle the situation delicately for all involved.

Thanks for your understanding and advice..

A Synchronet sysop has more options than to "deactive an account", just give the proper user restrictions while you await their confirmation that they've learned their lesson and changed their ways.

Oof, deactivated? I wouldn't go that far..

Until you said that I was going to point them to another BBS where some possibly like-minded people hang out and might even be into that programming project idea.

Thanks, I was looking into alternatives. For now, I've set the 'N' restriction. I suppose I could also look at assigning a different privilege level and throttling somehow.

That said, I have not even been able to look into all posts by this user yet.

So far they do seem harmless. They were creating some traffic but I am not sure it was really a bother to all of us. Sort of like the Millionaire
used to be, except apparently autistic instead of apparently sickly and bed ridden. TM really got om some people's nerves while others interacted with
him when he hit on subjects that they had input on.

They are not really a bother to me. If I don't understand or care about
what they are posting I can always just go to the next message. Granted, I
am only seeing what they are doing in this network and not on any others.

Define "noisy"? And I'm not sure I'd say they're a nuisance.. I feel like deactivating their account might be a bit extreme.

I'm glad to hear you say that, because I don't know what people consider "noisy". I got a message on my BBS from the Guest account, where someone - I presume some sysop on DOVE-Net got fed up, but of course I do not know whom.

As a new sysop, I am unsure how to navigate. I don't want to step on too many toes at once..

She replied privately to one of the messages I posted on Dove-Net, so the reply came to me as an email on my BBS. But it looks like it has been sending me multiple copies of the same email. I replied, and when she replied to that, multiple copies of her reply came to me on my BBS. I'm not sure what's going on, but I may need to add that user's name to my twit list so I don't keep getting a bunch of email spam.

Not sure why this line above appears in every message from your system...

as some may have noticed, I've got a somewhat noisy user on my BBS. Thi is a person with certain personal challenges but is harmless.

on too many toes at once..

I'd suggest setting the "N" restriction on their user account, so they
can't post to Networked message bases (like DoveNet, FidoNet, etc) for the moment. Then, send them a personal/private message on your board and
explain a little about better message writing, and add that their echomail posting priviledges will be restored in a short while. Monitor their
activity for a bit to ensure the advice was followed. That should do it.

    Take this on board.

    Your system, your rules.

If you don't want them on your system then ban them. If you want to restrict them then do so.

I have no idea what might cause multiple copies to go out. I may need to look more closely at the QWK exchange with Vert - I presume this is how the messages came your way?

If you volunteer to send me a "private" message so I can reply, and we see if the problem repeats. I'll watch and capture the QWK exchange to see if there's anything obviously wrong.

The messages in question are QWK "netmails" and not echo posts. We were
only receiving one copy of the echo posts from Victoria, but multiple
copies of any netmails that she sends.

They were QWK netmail so that is likely.
