From The Lizard Master@1:103/705 to All on Sat Sep 30 21:11:34 2023
Hi! So I'm close I think? I have 3.2 running DosEmu2. I have one door working, the one's I want are not and I'm assuming I'm not loading the fossil driver for some reason.

I should be able to do this right? I tried executing it in a bat file:

    E:\door>xu.exe

Incorrect X00 Version or X00 is not installed.

I'm hoping once I get past this last step I'll be back up and running. Thanks!

Thank you to both of you. I was currently trying x00, but it doesnt appear to be loading or working for some reason as it has in the past.

For ADF do you have an example you use to call it? It seems like I need to pass com port info is there a line you pass with Sync variables?

    Thanks!

x00 works just fine. I've used it with dosemu and dosemu2.

If you're using Ubuntu you can download https://www.endofthelinebbs.com/dosemu2.tar.gz

then untar it somewhere and follow the instructions. You might want to backup your existing files. Afterwards, it should just work. It'll probably work on other versions of Linux too. Be sure to follow the instructions in the readme.

Wow this was great. Some of your settings were better and I am getting better results so thank you very much for the write up and config files.

The door series I want is still not working unfortunately. Is it possible you can check under your setup? I wouldn't impose but my wife and I have been playing this series over 25 years believe it or not. She's pretty disappointed right now and so am I. They are TiJaSoft games using DDPlus.

    This is an example: http://www.tinysbbs.com/files/doors/CASINO.ZIP

This exact zip was working with running 3.19 Sync and Dosemu with the setting set to fossil.

There are three settings available for the door fossil, xfossil, and internal. With your settings fossil doesn't detect, xfossil works then drops carrier. Internal with STDIO freezes up. It works locally with no issue though. I've tried every various scneario I can think of at this point so I appreciate any thoughts.

When you run crcsetup select INTERNAL for the fossil driver and see if that works. You will want to change the location of bulletins to E:\casino\whatever.asc (or whatever /xtrn directory you used). I wouldn't recommend using more than 8 character for a dos directory.

Finally make sure you run the game with

    casino.exe /P%n

Well, that's about all I can ask for here! I was really happy to see the screenshot. Very much appreciated.

I've followed the DOSEMU2 instruction guide, followed all of your casino install to a T. I get the initial screen and then it drops carrier. The door is writing the initial files including the dat files if I remove them. I redownloaded the same zip file you used and started from scratch. I tried dorinfo1.def, same result. On another door by the same author the intro screen shows up and then immediately drops carrier. Meanwhile a door from another author it works just fine.

I'm at a loss. I might delete completely and try to reset up from scratch again just to see if there's something I might have done to cause this prior to following your instructions. I'm very excited you got there no issue, I can't figure out why it drops carrier. I thought maybe it was a permissions thing as it tries to write the files, but that really doesn't seem to be the case. I also followed DM's guide to a T using sbbs as the user. I've been trying all kinds of different stuff...

I did figure out through your dosemu2 settings that RTE 200 is not an issue so that's pretty great thanks!

Okay so I spun up a new VM. Installed Sync 3.20 on Ubuntu 22.04.2 under sbbs:sbbs. Followed all the steps in dosemu2.tar.gz, used INTERNAL as the setting and set up using setup.cfg.

When I go into xternal, and select casino it processed for the month, updated everything, shows the first screen for press anykey, when I press any key it drops out and goes back to the external prompt. Sooooo frustrating and soooo close. I cannot get to the screen you took a shot of. Is there anything at all I could possibly be missing here? THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH for your time!

Pastebin your CASINO.CFG or passteit here, I guess, along with the section of /sbbs/ctrl/xtrn.ini for your game. I'll be something like

You may want to check permissions and make sure this is created.

Warning: Your CPU doesn't support UMIP

Not sure what this is about. Something to do with user mode instruction prevention. I don't think this is anything to worry about.

    Warning: PKT: Cannot open sock

We may have to turn on debugging to get more information on this...let's move on.

Can't create debugger pipes, dosdebug not available

dosdebug should be part of dosemu2. What OS are you using and what's your source for dosemu2? I'm not sure this is a big issue either.

    # dpkg -S dosdebug
    dosemu2: /usr/share/man/ru/man1/dosdebug.1.gz
    dosemu2: /usr/bin/dosdebug
    dosemu2: /usr/share/man/man1/dosdebug.1.gz

I just noticed that you didn't load nansi.sys so it seems I don't have the latest /sbbs/ctrl/.dosemu directory in the archive file.

rm -rf /sbbs/ctrl/.dosemu then download https://www.endofthelinebbs.com/dot-dosemu.tar.bz2 and untar it into your /sbbs/ctrl/.dosemu directory. Of course, change permissions as necessary. Give it another go and repost the dosemu_boot logfile.

It was on there, I'm guessing those errors were appearing because of the /usr/1001 directory not being there. I created it and alot cleared up, thank you. I am running latest build of Ubuntu and the source was just passing the commands you specificed in your dosemu2.tar.gz doc.

    https://pastebin.com/TEkjjyV6

Unfortunately still getting the display and exit.

I tried running dosdebug while the door was executing, but it only runs when dosemu is actually running. So I left the opening screen up, went into debugger, and just got the following line after pressing a key in the door when it terminates:

    Dosemu process ended - quitting

Of course! I definitely don't want you to mess up your system. Is it possible to tar your working dosemu bin? I wasn't able to figure out how to get the older version of dosemu2 going.

In other news I started a full Ubuntu install from scratch, installed original dosemu, and latest synch and it does work fine. I'd much rather get this working in dosemu2 obviously and I think we may have inadvertantly uncovered an issue going through this exercise on the next release of it. That might also impact other sysops and other doors we don't know about.

For now I'm sort of in limbo, if I'm going to move to a new server would probably be better to do so latest SBBS -> dosemu2 vs latest SBBS -> dosemu.

I might just switch to the dosemu one so my wife and I can get back to it, and keep the dosemu2 up and working with it. Thanks as always for everything.

If you're going to start from scratch, try installing Ubuntu 20.04.3 rather than 22.04.3. I know for sure that the focal version works for me. When you do an upgrade from 20 to 22, it comments out the ppa so it doesn't get upgraded. I guess that's what allowed mine to work ok.

I tried it on my bare metal system but unfortunately I get the runtime 200 error because it's too fast and the fixes don't work.
