Hey all!
I've been in contact with my net coordinator and got my old Fidonet address reassigned. He's using irex with no encryption or packet passwords set. I do have an areafix and session password set up with him.
When I try to send the netmail to areafix@1:266/512 with my areafix pw as the title and %LIST as the body, I see this in the synchro logs:
8/18 01:01:47p BINKOUT Running timed event: BINKOUT

I've verified the PW on both sides, but assume it's something with my config. Anyone ever see this issue, or have any idea where I can start looking?

That log output is truncated (missing info which could be helpful), so reviewing (or repasting here) the full log lines might help.
But "bad password" seems to be the most likely cause: your uplink and your mailer don't agree on what the session password is supposed to be.
So I took a look and all the permissions on sbbsecho.ini are full for all users, and I can manually open it and save it. When I did open it, I did notice it didn't have any of my hub's info in there, so I'm wondering if that's where the issue is. I can manually add it in using the Wiki, but it'd be nice to figure out why the tools within Synchro aren't able to open that file.
So I ended up going thru echocfg and re-created the linked node and SUCCESS!

So looks like I spoke to soon. It successfully authenticates, but doesn't "do anything." My hub said he's not seeing any packets. I tried to send a few netmails to myself as well as areafix at my hubs address... it generates a .cut file in the c:\sbbs\fido\outbound folder but never does anything with it.
If I run sbbsecho -ni or -ce, it says that it is scanning for inbound netmail messages and files them in the c:\ssbs\fido\netmail folder and that it is packing outbound netmail from c:\sbbs\fido\netmail\*.msg and shows the messages there as well with no errors.
sbbsecho.log shows that it's created netmail and packed it, and says that SBBSecho exiting with error level 0, NetMail(0 imported, 1 exported, 1 packed)
Any ideas where to look next?
Yes, your mail log output.
Yes, your mail log output. If you're using BinkIt (are you?) it's outbound sessions are logged where your event thread is logging (e.g. data/event*.log

Yes, I am using BinkIt.
So I checked in my ../data/logs folder and see ones with the date as the filename, files with FS and the date, and then FS and the date... none seem to have anything to do with the mailer.
The other odd thing, when I send netmail (or try to at least), I do not see anything when I select "read outgoing netmail" from the menu. So I'm wondering if that has something to do with it? I'd assume I'd see something there before it gets sent out?
I'm wondering if it's worth just nuking sbbsecho.ini and uninstall/reinstalling binkit at this point?

Just as a test, I sent a netmail from your BBS, Rob, to sysop@1:266/200 (me), and I did see the send message come up in the mail server logs, and when I logged into my BBS, I got a message:
SBBSecho: Robert Olsen sent you NetMail from 1:103/705
But it's nowhere to be found. I go to read mail and it just keeps saying "no message found." I took a look in the SBBSecho.log file:
2023-08-25 10:40:28 Importing C:\sbbs\fido\nonsecure\lyuw7bnp.pkt (Type 2, 0.5KB) from 1:218/700 to 1:266/200

Is it because I have it set to forward netmail to my gmail that it doesn't show up in the board?
If so, that's ok, but I never receive it there
either... odd stuff.

I'd suggest looking at the log output of BinkIt and reporting back, like I asked.

I checked in the sbbsecho.log that's specified in the sbbsecho.ini file and this is what it says:

When it connects to my hub, it doesn't seem to "do" anything... the file in the outbound folder is still there, and basically in the 'events' window it just says that it connects successfully and then drops.

Is there some flag/setting somewhere that's different when connecting to IREX?
