Hi everyone,
What are the best ways of making bulk changes to sub-boards?
I had a situation (might be a bug leading to it...) which made me think of this.
When setting up for FidoNet, I had a temporary address. I did the import of sub-boards via the configuration tool.
I later got a real address. I configured this as my system address. However, I then realised that every single sub-board still had the old address hard-coded: It didn't chance when I adjusted my System Address.
Due to the number of groups involved, I just wiped out the groups and re-imported. They came back in with the correct address associated.
Is there an easier way to do this?
What are the best ways of making bulk changes to sub-boards?Not really. You could export to subs.txt, modify that file, then re-import. Not exactly *easier* than what you
described.
I suppose SCFG should sanity check the FTN addresses for each sub when loading from msgs.cnf and if they're wrong
(there's no such AKA for the local system), do some kind of sane fix-up automatically. --

Thanks Rob. I've raised this as an Issue so we keep track of it.

I did go down the 'export' route in the end. Although it seemed like this was deleting all my messages as well, on a refresh they all seemed to come back. Does that sound right?

No, not really. What do you mean by "a refresh"?

Probably easier if I start with the first step...
If I remove a Message Subgroup via scfg, does that also delete any associated messages from storage?

Can the 'Post using real name' flag be easily set by this method? I couldn't spot anything obvious in the subs.txt export.
I'd like to do this for 200+ FidoNet sub-boards rather than go through each one manually...
