Long Name General
Short Name General
QWK Name GENERAL
Internal Code WEEDNET_GENERAL
General General
Hi,
I'm gating the areas for WeedNet between the QWK and FTN network world.
The areas have some "generic" names, eg. "General".
Is it possible to have a different FTN echo name, eg. "Weed_General", but keep the QWK networking intact?
So my FTN downlinks would add it in Areafix using "+WEED_GENERAL" but the QWK network name stays the same?
The settings for "General" in scfg are:
Long Name General
Short Name General
QWK Name GENERAL
Internal Code WEEDNET_GENERAL
I've created a echolist file which contains for this area the line:
General General
Which name should I change?
Is it possible to have a different FTN echo name, eg. "Weed_General", but keep the QWK networking intact?QWK networking doesn't use the conference (sub-board) name - that's really just for QWK offline readers.
Which name should I change? The AreaTags (a.k.a. echo tags) are configured/controlled in your Area File (e.g. areas.bbs) file, not SCFG. But when using "Automatically Add New Subs to Area List" set to "List Only" in echocfg or when exporting a message group from SCFG to an area file, the Newsgroup Name is used (if non-blank) or else the Short Name is used.

I'm sorry that I don't understand what you want to tell me with this sentence. Is the "conference (sub-board) name" the Long Name and Short Name settings in SCFG?

At the moment, I have set "Automatically Add New Subs" to "List/File".
But still it feels complicated every time I add new echos via Areafix requests from a uplink :)
But to sum up my question:
If I understood you correctly, I can set the "Newsgroup Name" in SCFG and this will then be the name which is written to "areas.bbs" when I use "Export Areas" in SCFG to create a new areas.bbs?
And I can use "Export Areas" to create a new EchoList file -- and then I have different FTN and QWK names?
If you don't have any downlinks, you could try running SBBSecho without an area file at all - by setting that option to just "List". You may find that less complicated.

Additionally, you probably don't need to export to an EchoList file unless you're running your own FTN othernet.
