run a bbs on Linux? I am not in need of computers, I have around 10 setting in my office right now doing various things. One even has Linux on it.
I've played with Linux many times. I can make it do most things, but it always seems to take more work then using Windows. What is a good reason to run a bbs on Linux?

Linux. Unless you just want to run a "stock" BBS. MarisaG could set you up with a standard synchronet BBS on Ubuntu. Let me know if you're interested in something like that or drop her a line yourself. She may also have a
For 16-bit DOS door games, I don't think anything is better than a 32-bit install of Windows currently. Linux w/DOSEMU might be "good enough" for a lo of BBSes, but it'll never be quite as good as the Win32 system for that one particular use case. For everything else, Linux is a better choice, IMHO.

On linux you can run dos/win doors as well as Linux doors. Windows can only run the dos/win32 games...

I pretty much run the BBS for the games. I am thinking about trying a Linux Gamesrv install to run the Linux only door games. Then RLogin into it from my Windows machine.

I started my game server as a Linux based Synchronet BBS, it soon became obvious that win32 is a more stable option, especially if you which to offer TradeWars 2002 ... it is very very tricky to get running under dosemu, if at all, and if your system is a Buster release, well, domenu is not supported a dosemu2 sucks ...

I was thinking of only running the Linux based door games off the Linux game server and the other ones off the Win32 machine. I'll play with it a bit and see what works. It's not like I don't have time on my hands.

One thing I like about Linux is that Linux is free, and you can always download a freely-available Linux distro and run it on a PC.
