If possible, you should probably remote into your setup on MarisaG's server and re-do your BBS setup. Maybe start from scratch. Also, there are instructions included with ecwebv4 for how to set it up.

Thanks. I'm getting tired of all this. Running Synchronet on my own machine was so much easier. Running on someone elses machine sux. I don't understand all this Apache stuff and really don't want to learn it. I'm unable to install ecweb4. I run the jsexec file and nothing happens. I thought that having a Synchronet website was a good way to attract "newbies". I don't see that happening on my board anyway. It's a shame too Echicken did all that work with the new web interface. I really liked it. It was great to be able to logon to my board with my smart phone using the webv4 interface. I'll just have to use your board to experience it Mr. NighFox. :-)

Yes I know. I ran the update using MarisG instructions and the Web stuff got wacked. Here's the instructions. I know now to use them now but it's too late.

cd /sbbs
backup_bbs
export CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@cvs.synchro.net:/cvsroot/sbbs
cvs update -d src 3rdp
cd /sbbs/src
./cleanall.sh RELEASE=1

Yea been doing it since January. I just did this upgrade thingy and poof! Even after I restored the System the Web stuff didn't come back. Not much of a backup eh? I used to Totally WACK my Windows 7 machines running BBS's. I just ran restore and boom! Everything back to normal. This Ubuntu stuff is killing me. lol

You didn't want the joomla website so I disabled it. You must have reenabled it as I have not touched your server in quite a while...

You shouldn't have to deal with Apache if you don't want to. And even if it's on someone else's machine, you should be able to remote login and manage your BBS yourself.

I can and do. I don't know how to fix the web stuff. I'm not going to beg MarisaG to fix it. I don't understand her logic with the Joomla stuff or how to get rid of it without breaking more stuff.

That's to download the latest source and re-compile to the latest Synchronet version in CVS and has nothing to do with http/https services. From reading the thread ahead, it appears you've somehow re-enabled apache/joomla which starts up before Synchronet. My bet would be that if you disable apache/joomla from startup that Synchronet would be able to bind to the ports.

Ubuntu:
sudo systemctl disable apache2
sudo systemctl stop apache2
sudo systemctl restart sbbs

Assuming you haven't set the [Web] Autostart to false in sbbs.ini.

There's an install/update script that's run via jsexec; this is the preferred setup method today. People *can* install manually if they want to.

Ok. MarisaG fixed it but I need to know how I "somehow re-enabled Joomla"? How can I find out what the Startup script looks like? I'm not a Ubuntu expert but I would like to have more control over my BBS. How can I stop Joomla from loading ever again? Can someone give me the right command sequence to update my
BBS without screwing it up?

The script you posted should be fine for updating your BBS to the latest version of Synchronet. As long as you don't go changing services, ports, or other system related functions, you should be alright.
