• Won't allow new users

    What now? So what's going on with my BBS now? After going through the new user application right after the system assigns the users password it disconnects and displays the messgage "You have sent too many emails".

    I think somebody else already suggested this, but maybe you have "Email Per Day" set too low for whatever the new user's initial security level is. SCFG
    System -> Security Level Values.

    It sounds like you're giving new users a security level that has an "emails per day" value that is 0.

    Check SCFG->System->New User Values->Level and find the "Email per Day" value associated with that level in SCFG->System->Security Level Values. Sounds to me like it's "0" (no emails per day).

    Ok.. I fixed it but not sure how. I changed some of the new user settings. I'll double check the security settings. Thanks for your speedy reply. I still can't get Ftelnet to work. Does that use any security settings?

    Thanks. That was it. I have no idea how it was changed but that was the problem.

    No, ftelnet doesn't use any security settings.

    I was recently informed that ftelnet wasn't working from own web sites (vert.synchro.net and web.synchro.net) and it turned out the problem was that when launched from the "External Programs" menus, ftelnet was defaulting to connect to "localhost" using RLogin, but my RLoginInterfaces values in sbbs.ini did not include localhost (e.g. 127.0.0.1 or ::1).

    A bit of patience and network trouble-shooting led me to the solution.

    The default new user security level (for a "normal" Synchronet install) is 50. You didn't say what yours was set to. Was it level 50? What were the security level values set for level 50? Here are the defaults:

    Time Per Day 480
    Time Per Call 240
    Calls Per Day 50
    Email Per Day 20
    Posts Per Day 30
    Lines Per Message 200
    Free Credits Per Day 50M
    Expire To Level 0
