Hi, DM, my system was down for 4 days due to Hurricane Dorian and when it came back I have a new ip address, however it does not seem that Vert is picking it up; ran dyndns.js maually a few times but ping

    PING alleycat.synchro.net (24.138.28.115) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from 24-138-28-115.eastlink.ca (24.138.28.115): icmp_seq=1 ttl=62 time=24.5 ms

whereas my new ip address is

    PING alleycat.asmf-etrucker.com (216.146.39.125) 56(84) bytes of data.
    64 bytes from webhop-lax.dyndns.com (216.146.39.125): icmp_seq=1 ttl=52 time=107
    ms

My doctor said I have the body of a 25 year old ... and the mind of a 10 :-/

I'll chime in on this. DNS changes take time to propagate across the web. Give it 24 to 48 hours.

Thank you for the response; my dyn.com updated immediately, as did vert once I forced the modopts.ini [dyndns] ip = setting ... musta been something intermediate since, IMSMC, dyndns.synchro.net 's Linux Bind operates on a real_time SOCK_STREAM proagated via dyndns.js ... most likely it was because I am the SysOp that had an invalid LOC setting which bound DM's Bind zone file :-P ... thank you for fixing that DM, and sorry for the conflagration I caused!

While it is true that some DNS changes (nameserver changes etc) typically take a few hours or up to a day possibly to take effect, I don't think that synchro.net dyndns updates should take more than a few minutes to take effect.

    Seems to be working now:

    root@cvs:/var/log# host alleycat.synchro.net
    alleycat.synchro.net has address 24.224.194.149
    alleycat.synchro.net mail is handled by 0 alleycat.synchro.net. root@cvs:/var/log# grep alleycat /sbbs/data/synchro.net.zone
    alleycat A 24.224.194.149 ; 5d79a392 Wed Sep 11 2019 06:46 pm

I had a problem with non-numeric LOC records creeping into the zone file. That should be fixed now.
