Another Day In The ER

Yesterday was chaotic. First, we had thunderstorms in the area
much of the day (some severe). But, of more concern, I had been
experiencing possible symptoms of a DVT (deep vein thrombosis,
blood clots in the leg), with numbness and pain in the legs. So,
I had called my PCP, and the nurse said "you need to go to either
Urgent Care or the Emergency Room".
Well, I felt well enough to drive (so I avoided ambulatory and
taxi fees)...and the ER was packed. I got there at 5pm, but it was
3am this morning before I was released.
In telling of my symptoms, they felt I was at a moderate risk for
a DVT, so they decided to do an ultrasound of both legs, and the
scrotum (testicular pain can also be a precursor of kidney stones)...
plus, a CT scan.
So, they drew blood, and wanted a urine sample. They give women a
cup to pee in, but for the men, it's basically "a test tube" (are you
kidding me??!!). They then added an IV for more blood, and then for
the CT scan.
They took me back for the ultrasounds of both legs, and the scrotum.
The gel was WARM, but it was a bit messy. :P At least the female nurse specialist was good looking <eg>. Then, the CT Scan, with the IV...I
got "a nice warm feeling", but thought I was going to pee and poop on
the table.
The diagnosis was severe epididymytis, which is common for males
who have had vasectomies done. They gave me a prescription for
doxycycline, but I wasn't about to go to the 24 hour Walgreens
Pharmacy at 3am to get it. I picked it up before lunch today.
At least it wasn't a blood clot, as those can be deadly.
