    Just to let everyone know.
Daryl is still having power problems, be a week or more before he can
return home. The power company is backed up with repair orders, getting lines back up, etc.
He is doing as well as he can be but wants to get back home. Motels and eating out everyday is expensive.
He is also having problems with his insurance company over who's to pay
for damages, what is/is not covered, etc.
    But he is safe.

Got an email from Daryl power is being restored. During the storm a tree fell on a power pole pulling down lines which also ripped the power thingy
(I think that's the technical term) off his outside wall.
His power has been restored and home again, but a while before he's back online with other issues to be addressed first.
But Little Rock is returning to normal again.

    Joe,

I got the computer working again (darn legacy mode got turned OFF in
the Command Prompt window...likely from a Microsoft update).

Of more concern is that my Mom passed away early Friday morning, so
I've been on the phone much of the day, to try to take care of things.

However, the funeral, etc. has to wait until I'm recovered from
    urinary bladder surgery on Monday.

I'm doing pretty good right now...with the BBS, ham radio, and square dancing, as a diversion. It hasn't hit me yet, but it likely will sooner
or later. My brother is already a basket case emotionally.

addition to this he is also going to have urinary surgery on Monday.

Talk about a double whammy...never mind those critters on the game

Thank you for the post...and I appreciate everyone's condolences,
    thoughts, and prayers.

He will be absent for a few weeks.

Well, I've been using the BBS, plus my 2 other hobbies of square
dancing, and ham radio, as "diversional therapy". I started preparations
for her funeral on Friday (the day she died), making final notes on the obituary, and calling what life insurance deals were for myself and my
brother, to cash them out. The reality of her death hasn't hit me full
force yet, but I know it will sooner or later. The urinary bladder
surgery in the morning is front and center right now...no food or drink
    after midnight tonight.

One comforting item on Saturday, the day after her death, was that
besides the Today In History deal with the Burma Shave ad I have here, I
have other things setup...like Today's Blooper, Random QWK Tagline, Pun
In History, Weather History (data after 1990 is partial), Random Quote,
and Random Bible Verse. Of the latter, the verse that came up yesterday
was Psalm 116:15: "Precious in the sight of The Lord is the death of His Saints". From what I understand, she went peacefully.

On another note, the local paper only allows for 50 words in an obituary...after that, it's $1 A WORD!! So, I had to create a "Readers
Digest version" of the obit. That reminds me of the pun where this guy
was the editor of the death notices in the local paper, and his son was
working to follow in his footsteps. So, when word got out that he and
his son were working on it, his offspring became known as "son of
    obituary editor". <BG>

Don't throw the tomatoes at me, like the "groundlings" of Elizabethan
Theatre in William Shakespeare's day did (when actors were bad). I'd
rather have them on a BLT...and I understand that the Sonic Drive-In Restaurants (with car-hops) have that on their menu, but I haven't tried
    it yet.

Anyway, when I talked to the funeral director on Friday (the day my
Mom died), he said that "it was wise to wait until after my urinary
bladder surgery, before proceeding with the funeral plans", and "the
full obituary will be on our website, and in the program".

I have to get the outfit my Mom will be buried in, plus the pictures I
want there...but I'll get those Wednesday morning, before I go to the
funeral home. As noted, her death hasn't really hit me yet...but it has
already hit my brother in spades...he's a basket case. He requested 3
    things of the funeral:

    1) The service be during the week (not on a weekend) -- the viewing
    would be the night before.

    2) The time would be 12 Noon.

    3) The sermon and service would be "short and sweet". It is hard for him
to sit in one place for very long. Part of that is his impatient
nature...but, moreso that he is so bummed up in pain from injuries and surgeries from the freak motorcycle wreck he suffered not 3 months after
my wife died, that nearly killed him.

I told him that if he feels so lousy and can't make either one, to not
worry about it. I certainly don't want a double funeral on my hands. He
said he's not going to even be able to look into the casket, or he'll
    break down.

    So, just like with:

    1) The Power Of Attorney deal, to cash in all the life insurance,
stocks, etc., to go into a Miller Trust to pay the $5500 a month nursing
home bill (no more worries about that).

    2) My moving what I could back to what was her place (her house and her
car were deeded to me, and are mine now...especially since she's now
dead -- although I lost 95% of the furniture in the move, due to no room
for it over here, and still haven't unpacked the stuff from the move).

    3) Now being Executor of her estate (she has so much stuff I'm going to
have to donate, give away, or trash).

All of that fell on my shoulders...as he wanted NOTHING to do with any
of it. He always lived for himself and for the present. Had I not found
a simple cremation deal for $800 for him, I likely would have had a
$12,000+ funeral bill on my hands.

My late father and my late mother both pre-arranged (although there
may be some additional expense I'll have to work on paying), and the
money I got from my Dad's death, paid for my late wife's funeral. After
that, I set up a pre-arrangement plan, which has now been taken care of.

We still have a threat of thunderstorms, so at times, the BBS may be
offline, and I may be delayed in replying to mail. However, the
autoposts of the Burma Shave ad (back when times were much simpler and
    safer) will continue.

Yesterday, repeated thunderstorms dropped nearly 5 inches of rain here
in under 8 hours. The Little Rock Fire Department had to do numerous
water rescues as a result. Flash Flood Warnings were in effect, and many
areas have signs noting "ROAD UNSAFE WHEN UNDER WATER". Yet, it's as if
a bunch of folks wanted to vie for a Darwin Award. :P

Today (Sunday) through Tuesday, we're dealing with Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings...temperatures near 100, and heat indexes at
least 115 to 120. I'm more than ready for cooler weather.

    3) The sermon and service would be "short and sweet".

As I wrote, mine merely had a grave side service.

    My bother had that.
When our mother first went in the home he looted her place keeping what
he wanted and tossing the rest. Never asked me if I wanted anything.
She recovered and lived several more years.
When she went into the home she was bad off and I guess he expected her

although I lost 95% of the furniture in the move

Mine wanted to do it all. I was given the burial service plans as a

The body is merely a shell for the soul, which has moved on.

Yesterday, repeated thunderstorms dropped nearly 5 inches of rain here in
    under 8 hours.

    That would overload any system.
We have viaducts under train tracks that flood all the time. And there
are two main streets that flood as well.
People always blame the mayor at the time for the flooding but I always
say drains can only handle so much water at one time. And the streets are at the bottom of a rise where water collects.
Our biggest problems with drainage is trash people leave on the street
and all that paper and plastic get caught in the grate or the pipes and that causes water to back up and flood as well.

I don't mind a dry heat, but hate humidity. So far this summer we
haven't had a lot of humidity.
I will be (most likely) working out of doors in a couple of weeks with traffic control when the college students move back and that will be when heat and high humidity hit. Just on those days. The ones before and after will

    Joe,

When my mother died in 1986, she had been in ill health but still it was
unexpected. My brother (from her first marriage) took over with all the JM>plans, etc. (He had a friend who was a funeral director).
I was left with nothing to do.

My brother wanted nothing to do with the Power Of Attorney, getting
her assets into a Miller Trust, or the funeral plans. He lived for the
present, and for himself, and right now, he is a basket case.

I wanted to keep in working but the boss had me take several days off.

The day my Grandma died, I went to work, but I couldn't get the image
of seeing her corpse still in bed (the county coroner and sheriff had
certified the death as "natural causes"), out of my mind. I left for
home shortly after lunch, as I was in a zombi state. I took the day of
    the funeral off.

The only thing I did have to do deal with the graveside services. No
funeral, no viewing, nothing. In my church there is a set service with two JM>options: Traditional language and modern language.

    My brother made 3 requests:

    1) Both the viewing and the service be during the week, not on the
    weekend.

    2) The viewing be from 6pm to 8pm, and the service at noon.

    3) The service be "short and sweet".

I told him I would honor his request. He said he likely won't even be
able to look into the casket.

The reality of her death hasn't hit me full
force yet, but I know it will sooner or later.

    And at unexpected times.
Esp, those times you are alone.

It did that 7 months after my late wife died. I had an apartment
inspection coming up, and a bunch of other stress, and I ended up crying
like a baby for a half hour. Yes, real men, do cry.

I can usually keep my emotions under control when around people. But
there will a word, a saying, a song, something will happen when alone.

At least I have all the wonderful memories that no one can take away.

Those might be something everyone else might enjoy reading.
If nothing else add some traffic. :)

OK, I'll add it. I know you have a "prohibition" on preaching and proseletysing" (sp?), but this is just a verse.

My favories are still the church bulletin bloopers.

Along that line, I saw a hilarious story on Facebook the other day,
and it came over the weekend, when I needed a laugh.

This female church organist was an excellent musician...but she was
rather "well endowed", with huge cleavage breasts. It was giving many of
the men of the church "hormonal fits"...and many of the church women
were absolutely appalled. Yet, they had never had such an excellent
    organist.

Well, one day, one of the church ladies took her aside, and told her
that what she needed to do was to "Mash up several perisimmons, and rub
them and the juice all over her breasts and nipples. But do NOT lick,
touch, or suck on them, as they are so sour, or your mouth will pucker
    up.

The next Sunday at church, when the minister came to the pulpit, he
said "Dew to thircumstanthis bewond my contwol, we will not hab a
    thermon tewday". <BG>

On a side note, I saw a T-shirt once, that had this ocelot on it, who
looked like he had been sucking on persimmons, as his mouth was all
puckered up. The shirt noted "I have PMS, and a handgun. Any
    questions??" <G>.

On another note, the local paper only allows for 50 words in an
    obituary...after that, it's $1 A WORD!!

    Holy cow!

I said something else when I saw the size of that bladder stone on the cystoscopy. The surgery went rather well. They blasted the stone to smithereens, then irrigated the bladder to flush it out. But, combine
that with a massive dose of Lasix, and drinking 10 pitchers of ice
water, I was filling up the male urinals on an hourly basis for 12
hours. As a result, I got no sleep at all last night.

I see obits in the paper that are who, what, where, when, and that's it
and others that go on and on an on. These include nearly every relative the
person had up to fifth cousins 20 times removed, or so it seems.

Sort of like on Facebook, where they tell of their days activities,
all the way down to the intracacies of their bowel habits. :P

his son were working on it, his offspring became known as "son of
    obituary editor". <BG>

    LOL

Thought you'd like that one. :)

It was a hot, muggy day in late June, not a bit of a breeze. There were
few flowers, but someone sent a huge display of roses, the kind that are JM>displayed on a tripod.

The day my Dad was buried in the military veterans cemetery, it was
freezing cold (early February), with temperatures in the upper 20s and

butts would freeze to the chairs.

I leaned over to my 12 year older brother and said, "You know she never
liked roses" and it was all he could do to keep from laughing.

I'm going to share some funny moments at the funeral, as you have the wonderful memories.

(There's a story where good friends George Burns and Jack Benny were at a

Somehow, your train of thought jumped the tracks. :P

When she went into the home she was bad off and I guess he expected her
    to die any day.

I'm surprised she lasted as long as she did. But, when the nursing
home staff advised me to put her into hospice, as her body was shutting
    down, she didn't last 3 1/2 weeks.

I always managed, no matter how carefully I went back around the empty
place and looked, when I got to my new place stuff had disappeared.

    That's the way it works.

Mine wanted to do it all. I was given the burial service plans as a
bone. (He's not interested in church in any way). Of course with his frien
in the business, I imagine he got a good deal, but he never said anything JM>about it.

Neither is my brother. Admittedly, there are a lot of hypocrites out
there, but I'll only have to answer for what I've done.

I have donated my body to a med school. Provided its intact its accepted.
Otherwise its cremation and I could care less what is done with the ashes. JM>The body is merely a shell for the soul, which has moved on.

Sort of like the late Christian comedian Grady Nutt. He noted that
"The last T is important. Otherwise, I'd be like the rest of you". <G>
He added that upon his passing, they were to note "There's one less Nutt
on Earth, and one more nut in Heaven". <G>

    That would overload any system.
We have viaducts under train tracks that flood all the time. And there
are two main streets that flood as well.

Those railroad overpasses are notorious for flooding under them.

People always blame the mayor at the time for the flooding but I always
say drains can only handle so much water at one time. And the streets are JM>the bottom of a rise where water collects.

Exactly. Gravity is a strong force.

Our biggest problems with drainage is trash people leave on the street
and all that paper and plastic get caught in the grate or the pipes and that
causes water to back up and flood as well.

Then in the fall, it's all the fallen leaves that gather in there, and
    clog the drains.

I don't mind a dry heat, but hate humidity. So far this summer we
haven't had a lot of humidity.

It is brutal out there today (Tuesday). A cold front is to move
through the state (this time of year, the term "cold front" is relative.

I will be (most likely) working out of doors in a couple of weeks with
traffic control when the college students move back and that will be when he
and high humidity hit. Just on those days. The ones before and after will JM>be ok. ==sigh==

Be careful. Folks are dropping like flies in the heat...never mind
these "parents" who leave their kids and pets in the cars...that's a
    whole new can of worms.

And I was trying to keep the paragraph short. :(

When I mentioned at lunch yesterday, with some of my brothers friends

So George Burns, who could crack up Jack Benny with just a word or look,

Never mind the one with Victor Borge, and the opera singer Marilyn

she was going to sing, and she gave her reply, Borge sobbingly screamed
"OH, DEAR GOD!! NO!!" The audience was roaring in laughter.

She kept putting her hands on his piano, and he growled "You don't

When he started it, he played the "call to post" (from the horse

He then stood up, opened the bench, and produced a seat belt, and
buckled himself in. Again, the audience was roaring in laughter.

My favorite deal of his was the "phonetic punctuation"...and it was
the same for all his fans. <G>

I noticed something odd on my trip.
I get a daily email from my bank whenever money is deposited and
withdrawn. That way if something fishy (phishy today) happens I know right then,
not at the end of the month.
All during my travels I never got a email from the bank asking "Is this
you using your card?" since I was using the debit card all over the place.
Maybe the bank knew it was me and not someone else using the card.
I know when I picked up the phone for any number of reasons it knew if I
were walking or in a car. I would get these notices not to use the phone
when driving and would sometimes lie telling it I wasn't driving.
I sometimes take my phone on the bus when I want to check how long until
my bus arrives, when I get a wifi signal. The app will show where it is in motion as well as the ETA.
The other day I took it out to play a quick game of solitaire and was
told not to use while driving. :)

Mine runs down quickly as well, esp. if I have the location app on (such

I generally have that app off. I don't like the idea of "someone

    Same here.
When I was younger I moved a lot (25 times in my first 29 years. Cross
town, across the state, across the country) and came to a point I didn't care to know the name of the student beside me since the next year I would
probably be in a different school.
I was always quiet and reserved around strangers.
When I started working full time at 18 I was around people all the time
and that helped to break that protective shell.
Now I have little problem talking with strangers.

First, they couldn't get me to talk. Now, they can't get me to shut up

    No comment. :)
Reminds me of when I met Marcel Marceau, the noted mime.
A friend had a spare ticket for his show years ago when he was in the
area. This friend knew people and I got to attend a small after show birthday party for one of Marceau's people.
On stage he never spoke a word, but off stage he wouldn't shut up. :)
He was on tour and had like two vans, one for props, etc and the other
for a couple of stage hands that traveled with him.

Never mind the one with Victor Borge,

I saw him in concert in the mid 60s and met him once.
There was a small theatre at a swanky resort in Colorado Springs, CO when
I lived there and after his show he signed autographs.
That place had a lot of celeb's passing through and met Borge, Liberace, Rowan and Martin (before Laugh In), and several others. I always got autographs. No idea where they are now.
He did basically the same act from around 1940 to the day he died. And it
was as funny the upteenth time one heard it as it was the first time.

Well, I've been using the BBS, plus my 2 other hobbies of square
dancing, and ham radio, as "diversional therapy".

Very wise... :) It also keeps you in touch with your support systems...
a very good thing at this point... :)

One comforting item on Saturday, the day after her death, was that
besides the Today In History deal with the Burma Shave ad I have here,
I have other things setup...like Today's Blooper, Random QWK Tagline,
Pun In History, Weather History (data after 1990 is partial), Random Quote, and Random Bible Verse. Of the latter, the verse that came up yesterday was Psalm 116:15: "Precious in the sight of The Lord is the death of His Saints". From what I understand, she went peacefully.

That is indeed a comfort... and a nice providence for you... :)

Anyway, when I talked to the funeral director on Friday (the day my
Mom died), he said that "it was wise to wait until after my urinary bladder surgery, before proceeding with the funeral plans", and "the
full obituary will be on our website, and in the program".

Sounds like you have a good and helpful funeral director to work with... another blessing... :)

Yesterday, repeated thunderstorms dropped nearly 5 inches of rain
here in under 8 hours. The Little Rock Fire Department had to do
numerous water rescues as a result. Flash Flood Warnings were in
effect, and many areas have signs noting "ROAD UNSAFE WHEN UNDER
WATER". Yet, it's as if a bunch of folks wanted to vie for a Darwin
    Award. :P

You'd think that they'd be more sensible....

Today (Sunday) through Tuesday, we're dealing with Heat Advisories
and Excessive Heat Warnings...temperatures near 100, and heat indexes
at least 115 to 120. I'm more than ready for cooler weather.

Hopefully that will be soon.... and better already... :)

Boy, you're a traveling lady...doing far more than I likely ever will

I got the computer working again (darn legacy mode got turned OFF in the Command Prompt window...likely from a Microsoft update).

    Good catch...

At least it was a simple fix...and didn't cost me any money. My wallet
and bank account are screaming for morphine right now. :P

My thoughts and prayers have been with you since as soon as I heard... NB>I've been there, too...

Thank you, ma'am. My brother is an emotional basket case right now. As
noted, he has always lived for the present, and for himself...and has
always had a hard time confronting the issue of mortality...his, his
    friends, or otherwise.

I thought I'd lose my composure at the funeral home last Wednesday,
when I brought in all the stuff, and finalized the arrangements...but I
was able to self stabilize. She'll be buried in a red outfit, like a red
rose (Rose was her Mom's name), with a colorful beaded necklace she made herself, and red earrings. If you search online for "Roller Drummond
Southwest" or Roller Drummond I 30", you'll find the website, and then
click on Obituaries, and look for Betty Rentja Stout. The picture is her college graduation photo. An online guestbook is there, and we request
that instead of flowers, memorials be made to the food pantry at Geyer
    Springs United Methodist Church.

Hope that all went well... and that you are well on your way to full NB>recovery by now....

The surgery did go well. They blasted the stone to smithereens, then irrigated the bladder to flush it out. But, they gave me a massive dose
of Lasix, and combined with drinking 10 pitchers of ice water, I'll give
you 3 guesses what I was doing every 5 minutes for 12 hours, and the
first 2 don't count. Basically, the nurses brought extra urinal bottles,
as I was calling them so often to empty one. <G>

It's good to have regular things to keep one going.... and you've also NB>been preparing yourself for the eventuality... I sincerely doubt that it NB>will ever quite hit you like it is affecting your brother....

It nearly hit me last Wednesday, but it may do so at the viewing, and
at the service. While there may not be family from out of town coming (I understand my brother and I, the last of our line, are the YOUNGEST of
all the family members), there will be a lot of friends
locally...including from square dancing, the church, and from high
school...the kids that lived in the neighborhood. I've got to prepare a
brief eulogy, but when I noted that, a friend of my brothers lamented
"Crap!! We'll be here all day!!" <G> I likely will be down at the

    Nancy,

I was thinking of sending a donation for the Food Pantry, but realized NB>that I don't know your mom's name to make it in memory of...

It's Betty Rentja Stout in the obituary online. Search for Roller
Drummond Southwest or Roller Drummond I 30. Then, click on obituaries,
and look for Betty Rentja Stout. The obituary, which I wrote, is there,
along with an Online Guestbook. Journalism in high school and college 40
years ago, came in handy. I've done the obituaries for my grandmother,
my Dad, my wife, my Mom, and for myself. I hope mine isn't needed for a
    long time.

With writing those, I'm reminded of the joke where this gentleman who prepared the obituaries for the local paper, had his son at work with
him, following in his father's footsteps. The son became known as "son
    of obituary editor". <G>

Very wise... :) It also keeps you in touch with your support systems... NB>a very good thing at this point... :)

I've gotten a lot of support from the folks in ham radio, square
dancing, and in the message areas on the BBS...mainly from other
networks. I don't have many local callers though, but the BBS is part of
my diversional therapy. Another BBS in the area is having a picnic at an
area park in early September...and I plan on going.

That is indeed a comfort... and a nice providence for you... :)

I know I'll be "recompensed at the resurrection of the just", but
that's the least of my worries right now. 2 1/2 years ago, I cancelled a
trip to Orlando for a ham radio event, as my Mom was having a pacemaker
put in, and I felt it better to stay home with her. I have to go to
Heart Clinic Arkansas on Monday, and get a "return kit" to send the
measuring device back to the manufacturer...at least it's prepaid on
    shipping.

Sounds like you have a good and helpful funeral director to work with... NB>another blessing... :)

I'm going to be doing the eulogy, and 2 of the poems The Good Lord
gave me. But, I have to keep it brief...my brother will be trashed out emotionally, probably more than he is now.

You'd think that they'd be more sensible....

They have what I call "apathetic invincibility" when it comes to
hazardous weather. "It won't do much, and it won't affect me". Well,
"all hell breaks loose", and THEY get affected...and start screaming
bloody murder. Never mind they were warned of the possibility of such occurring.

Hopefully that will be soon.... and better already... :)

While the cold weather makes my arthritis hurt more, it means no
insects, no heat illness, and no tornadoes.

... Humor is an acronym for "HUman Management Of Reality"

As Roger Rabbit noted "If you don't have a sense of humor, you're
    better off dead!!".

Besides, without me in here as comedy relief, Joe Mackey would be
    bored stiff. <g,d,r>

    Joe,

The cab company here filed suit against LYFT and UBER and lost.

There was a lawsuit filed in the local court between a new cab company
and a long time one. Yet, I supported the new cab company, because of
the attitude, etc. of the long time cab companies (i.e. unsafe driving, speeding, taking the longest way around, etc.).

Writing this from being away at our camp at Boyd Pond... will upload
when I get home tomorrow.... :)

Boy, you're a traveling lady...doing far more than I likely ever
    will again.

And likely to continue doing such for quite a while still... especially
this year with my son back in the States (after an absence of almost 4
years) and in residence up at the Pond... I know of at least 2, maybe 3,
trips there... and at least one longer trip in late September for the
COOKING echo Picnic in NC this year...

I got the computer working again (darn legacy mode got turned OFF in
the Command Prompt window...likely from a Microsoft update).
    Good catch...

At least it was a simple fix...and didn't cost me any money. My
wallet and bank account are screaming for morphine right now. :P

Always nice when something can be done for free... :)

My thoughts and prayers have been with you since as soon as I
    heard... I've been there, too...

Thank you, ma'am. My brother is an emotional basket case right now.
As noted, he has always lived for the present, and for himself...and
has always had a hard time confronting the issue of mortality...his,
    his friends, or otherwise.

So he's just acting true to form... sadly... my prayers are with him as
    well... :)

Hope that all went well... and that you are well on your way to full
    recovery by now....

The surgery did go well. They blasted the stone to smithereens, then irrigated the bladder to flush it out. But, they gave me a massive
dose of Lasix, and combined with drinking 10 pitchers of ice water,
I'll give you 3 guesses what I was doing every 5 minutes for 12 hours,
and the first 2 don't count. Basically, the nurses brought extra urinal bottles, as I was calling them so often to empty one. <G>

They clearly wanted to thoroughly flush out the system so that there
wouldn't be any scraps left behind to give you grief....

It's good to have regular things to keep one going.... and you've
also been preparing yourself for the eventuality... I sincerely doubt
that it will ever quite hit you like it is affecting your brother....

It nearly hit me last Wednesday, but it may do so at the viewing,
    and at the service.

Possible... and grieving is even a good thing... as we do (and will)
miss the loved ones... but it doesn't have to devastate...

While there may not be family from out of town
coming (I understand my brother and I, the last of our line, are the YOUNGEST of all the family members), there will be a lot of friends locally...including from square dancing, the church, and from high school...the kids that lived in the neighborhood. I've got to prepare
a brief eulogy, but when I noted that, a friend of my brothers lamented "Crap!! We'll be here all day!!" <G>

You'll have plenty of support there then... and they can just live with
    the eulogy... <G>

I likely will be down at the
funeral home EARLY Wednesday for the viewing, because of rush hour traffic...and EARLY Thursday for the service. The weather looks stormy

    Nancy,

Looks like Dorian indeed will be hitting Florida as a hurricane on Labor NB>Day itself... Hopefully the last weekend in September will be ok, NB>though...

The weather pattern keeps changing. The Bahamas will be hit hard, but
he may skirt the coast of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas...bringing hurricane conditions, 2 to 3 feet of rain, tornadoes, and storm surge to
    a wide area.

I prefer just using the keyboard... :)

The Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Keyboards has me on their
Most Wanted List...the way I've typed the letters off of the keys. <G> I
never took a typing course in my life...becoming a touch typists after
becoming a Sysop 30 years ago.

Let it happen, get it to work out of your system, and then go on from NB>there... I was thinking more of ongoing, not-ending devastation...

I just feel it coming (the breakdown)...and it'll probably hit like a
bolt of lightning. Never mind Candid Camera "when you least expect it".

Sounds like it all worked out... :)

Plus, I wanted it short because:

    1) My brother wanted it that way.

    2) There was a potential for thunderstorms after the service, and I
didn't want folks caught driving home in it.

    3) I was hungry and wanted to eat.

Just be open to let him talk to you when he's ready to... :)

I'll wait awhile to give him the obituary picture.

So I've been hearing... the Bahamas are being hit hard, and now they are
saying that he'll take a hard right away from the coast, so an oblique
hit rather than straight on... But a slow moving, very wide storm... not
    nice at all...

I prefer just using the keyboard... :)

The Society For Prevention Of Cruelty To Keyboards has me on their

Perhaps our keyboards are older and therefore built better... all the
keys are still quite visiible on my keyboard... and I'm using it a
    lot... ;)

I never took a typing course in my life...becoming a touch typists
after becoming a Sysop 30 years ago.

I've become somewhat of a touch typist, now that I've been typing echo
etc messages for these many years... When I did take a (mandatory)
typing class in high school, I did pretty well, until the teacher
noticed that I was looking at the keyboard while I typed... which, it
turns out, was NOT the idea... oh, well... <G> She put a piece of paper
over the keyboard so that I couldn't see the keys any more, and that was
the end of my competency.... But years later, when I ended up having to
type in the dark sometimes, somehow my fingers learned approximately
where the keys are.... and on a computer, in a nice text editor, it's
easy enough to fix the typoes on the fly... theoretically, at least, and assuming one sees them as they happen... <G>

At least I am not like the setup where a blonde is at the

That's what I did in basic band...looked at the keys on the xylophone

played it in years, and can't get to it in the front room, for all the
    clutter.

That's all I can do. Too bad there are too many vacation red flags...I would've loved to have taken some time off from everything.

Replying from the Pond, 10 Sept at about 10:28pm...

So I've been hearing... the Bahamas are being hit hard, and now
they are saying that he'll take a hard right away from the coast,
so an oblique hit rather than straight on... But a slow moving,
very wide storm... not nice at all...

There's practically nothing left of some of the Bahamas. :(

Two of the islands, anyway... Some of them weren't badly hit,
thankfully... And the storm dissipated as it went up the coast, so it
wasn't as bad as it might have been... But indeed a monster storm while
    it lasted....

Perhaps our keyboards are older and therefore built better... all
the keys are still quite visiible on my keyboard... and I'm using
    it a lot... ;)

I had bought some keyboard covers at one time, but they have become "abused and torn". I need to order some new ones from Amazon.

    [snort] Neither am I... <G>

That's what I did in basic band...looked at the keys on the
xylophone instead of at the music.

Understandable.... getting so that one can read the music and find the
keys without looking does allow one to play more difficult music, but
sometimes one has to memorize the music so that one CAN watch what the
    hands are doing... <G>

I still have a classic Story And Clark spinet piano here at my home,

Unfortunately, another tropical cyclone may affect the area in the
coming days. The models are all over the place...some taking it across
Florida and into the Gulf Of Mexico, and others on the same path that
Dorian took, but this time, making landfall around the DelMarva.

Never used keyboard covers... I suppose that they might keep things a NB>little cleaner.... ;)

Like dropping crumbs between the keys. :P

At least you didn't spew coffee on your keyboard like Joe Mackey did

I admire those concert pianists. They practice 8 hours a day, and
sometimes, to the point of making their fingers bleed.

One of these days, maybe you'll get enough clutter cleared to get to NB>it... ;)

I still haven't cleared out stuff from the garage from a year ago,
    when I moved back here.

Maybe things will settle out some and you'll be able to do so after all, NB>eventually.... :)

I'm waiting on results of the CT Scan of my chest from this morning.
When they put that dye in the IV, I got "the peeing in my pants
feeling". Or, as the late Red Skelton noted "Did you know that tinkling
in your pants is like friendship?? Everyone can see it, but only you can
feel its true warmth". <G> I'll be into heavy drinking (of flavored
water) for a bit, to flush that out of my system.
