I'm using multimail 0.52. The message area echo names are truncated and wondering
if there's a known solution for it?

You may have better luck with BW or OMEN format offline packets, possibly QWKE packets may help also.

Offline mail formats all came along years ago and had there limitations.

Your message made me curious so I downloaded a few messages to read and look it over in multimail.

I downloaded an offline packet in OMEN format and it says this is the fido.linux_bbs area, the same as I see on the BBS. <<Prism BBS also supports OMEN offline packets (called grab format in BBBS) so you could try that and
see if it works better for you.

You are using Synchronet.. :)

The SBBS developers have extended QWK largely. I haven't used QWK as a user for eons so I'm not really up on the QWK user experience but for QWK networking SBBS nodes don't need to use QWKE for longer user names and subject lines. SBBS
QWK nodes can also transfer netmail and files between nodes. It's really impressive how that works.

Thanks, Alan, I tried OMEN and that works :)

I don't think Prism offers QWKE and I didn't even know such a thing existed. I was
using.. I guess it was just standard QWK.

I don't really care which format as long as it works, so I should be good with OMEN.

Looks like you figured out what I meant by "truncated". I wasn't too clear on that, but yeah.. for me, fido.linux_bbs gets truncated to 'fido.linux.bb', fido.fidonet.org gets truncated to 'fido.fidonet.'

Hmmmmm, well I only fairly recently switched to using QWKE (a
config choice on the SBBS QWK options). Before I changed that
(from regular QWK), I was seeing truncated subject lines and echo
area names. So I think you have to enable QWKE in your packet
configuration on SBBS to get those features. This was using the
MultiMail offline reader for viewing.

Depends on the BBS end. If the BBS software supports QWKE or Bluewave formats,
you should be able to get the full conference names. Synchronet and Mystic both support QWKE. You just have to turn it on, on the BBS end. Magicka supports both QWKE and Bluewave (pick the one you prefer in this instance). Other BBS software, I don't know

QWKE is fine. I use that format with my Synchronet and Mystic boards.

I do prefer Bluewave, where available, but QWKE works fine too.

I'm not sure exactly, I think it's an extention of QWK.

On the MultiMail GitHub repo, I saw in the HISTORY that QWKE was supported, so I submitted a doc patch to mention that in the

I think that QWKE needs to be enabled when a QWK packet is created and that may not be the case with BBBS but I haven't investigated.

A QWK packet that has QWKE enabled can have longer To:, From: and Subject: lines and possibly other things as well, like the area names.

On the MultiMail website at sourceforge.net or wmcbrine.com/mmail there is quite a bit of info about QWK/QWKE and other supported formats that can give you a better idea than I can provide.

Mystic has a toggle on the offline download menu for QWKE, if you enable that you'll get longer message area names and other QWKE benefits.

Yes, different BBSs support different formats. Mystic and SBBS support QWK and QWKE (enable that in SBBS for your user mail downloads also) and that will work
fine for you.

correct... the author was in a very bad accident like 20 years ago... his brother tried to provide registration but it didn't work out very well... many thought the author died from his injuries but it was discovered later that he had recovered... in any case support and registration for bluewave doors and readers has been lost since that time and will never be restarted...
