Haha, fun the subject pops up.
I have a Nokia 150DS, which is an old-school, dumphone Nokia.... made
in 2016. It runs Symbian too.
I have a Nokia 3.1 (Smartphone) for business, but my daily beater is
the dumbphone.
I feel like a grandpa inside.

My next phone may be a Linux phone, a free and open system. More than willing to sacrifice some functionality for a phone which I can mould
and bend to my will.

Linux phones sound interesting, I've seen a couple of good reviews,
and I've been watching the PinePhone with some interest. Been tempted
to get a Pinebook as well.

hardware to make this already exists

Might be an interesting project to try. Do you have a link or name
for it?
