Gert, I am having problems polling your FTN.
It keeps saying sesion aborted.

All of Gert's networks are effed up, as usual. and he's not

I think it's *WELL* past time to do that.

It's a shame. I like the idea because some of the echoes but
there's just not the traffic any more to justify so many of them.
There's really only need for one or two networks. It's not like
the philosophy isn't the same. No flaming, be kind, don't abuse
the network etc. etc.
Maybe FSX could be that network. It's busy, probably the first
network other than Fido a lot of sysops add. I am sure Avon
wouldn't be against expanding the number of groups to take up
where other networks get dropped. pinet for example, I doubt we
need an entire network dedicated to Rpis when a single echo
should do the job. There really isn't that much traffic.

Does Gert run Pi Net now?
Does Gert run Pi Net now?
Actually, no. But that's another sysop who can't keep his shit on. I'm abou to delink from them all. I thought it was a nice idea to carry as many networks as I can, but then I think I'm the only sysops who cares if he can connect or not.

With maybe one or two exceptions, I'm finding that Othernets tend to
have the same Sysops, same topics, same noise-factor.

That about sums it up. We just don't have the user base to support such
a diverse number of networks. I've got 1899 echoes on my BBS and I
expect that maybe a fraction of them get any traffic.

Most of it is from test posts seeing if people are getting out because
it's so quiet.

Pinet, Scinet, and some others are pretty dead.

Your system is amazing. The nntp part is a nice way to provide
outreach.

I've actually contemplated completely disconnecting myself from everything and just answer Netmail.
I have a few friends I've traded banter with privately for years now and I find thats enough enjoyment for me. Its nice to converse that way without someone else chiming in.
All of the echoes I'm tempted to put on Passthru for all my links with maybe
just a small number of ones I "have" to participate >left on my board.
If something is important or at least mildly amusing then I'm sure someone will bring it to my attention.
Theres just too much noise I beginning not to care for anymore. Test messages are skipped and I don't care about discussing Linux or other BBS software or Russia or the toppings preferred on my pizza or whatever.

That's probably because the current flock of sysops are poor
marketters and don't know how to attract a plain-ol' user.
My problem is not with not being able to connect, but with no traffic

Pinet, Scinet, and some others are pretty dead.
I tried to revive Scinet with a topic and then it just died because, as
you say, no participation.
That's probably because the current flock of sysops are poor
marketters and don't know how to attract a plain-ol' user.
There are some current sysops who have publically declared that users
are an extinct part of fidonet.
With maybe one or two exceptions, I'm finding that Othernets tend
to have the same Sysops, same topics, same noise-factor.

I'd like to provide an nntp newsfeed for my users, but I'm not sure how
to do it, other than importing every single nntp group into synchronet
and I don't think that's really feasible.

Did you manage to connect to my VKRadio hub lately? I did find
another issue last week and things seem to be working better.

VKRadio is still not connecting for sestar (IPv4 only if that

I also cannot connect to VKRadio (or DevNet) with IPv4. My logs show this:
Attempting poll for node 432:1/100@vkradio
evnt BINKPOLL JSBinkP/4 callout to 432:1/100@vkradio started
evnt BINKPOLL Connecting to 432:1/100@vkradio at bridge.vkradio.com:24554 evnt BINKPOLL Error 104 (Connection reset by peer) in recv() of first byte of packet header, timeout = 120
I think it's been that way for a while now, looking back through
logs...

interesting... you're getting a "reset by peer" error whereas
mine with binkd is just a timeout...

mine has been happening since 2022 Jan 16, i think... i'll bet
there's a ton of echomail sitting there waiting to be
delivered...

Sorry about the delays, but this should all be working, was fixed back in June.
