    You sure can!

    I've done it. Look for my messages that contain "Stealth" in the
    tagline. ;)

    I specifically made changes my TB 78 because I thought that darn
    line was needlessly long and verbose.

    You basically have to go into the Tools/Config and look for the
    UserAgent strings that match what you want to change. It depends
    on the version TB you are using. In some versions of TB you can
    put anything in there you want, leave it blank (for the most
    part), or just toggle a True/False setting.

    No, unless it is an option in T'bird. (I don't think it i, either.) Whether to quote it is an option in JamNNTPd's config, I think. Check with my friend, Tommi.

    For me, I kinda like it and leave mine configured to re-quote it.

    2:221/6 will add the 'useragent' to the tearline if you use nntps. Otherwise not. :D

    Well, I looked at the Tools/Config, nothing there, but at the ConfigEditor (at Preferences, as I am using a Mac) I got a few UserAgent configs, but none which
    I could effectively change. I will keep looking.

    Actually, exposing one's program version (especially in vastly
    more public venues like usenet) can attract the social engineers
    that think that they can phish you out and steer you to a site
    that would take advantage of a security weakness.

    I was able to eliminate broadcasting my TB version, but the
    "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.16)
    Gecko/20101125" crud is still there. :(

    SMAPI is a library to access JAM, Squish and .MSG message bases.

    SmapiNNTPd is just an alternative to JamNNTPd. The latter one can only
    work with JAM bases.

    I run JamNNTPd in OS/2 with GEcho as a tosser and SmapiNNTPd in Linux
