Hello!
Would a few people here please try a telnet connection to
trmb.ca:23 please. It is Rusty Mailbox BBS.
All my attempts are failing. Just wondering if others are
having the same issue.

I was able to connect to trmb.ca:23 but then received this message:
"Telnet service is disabled or Your telnet session has expired due to inactivity.

I can connect to trmb.ca:513 without issue though.

This is what has been reported to me but I don't know why.
Do you know if that error is reported from your client or if it is a
reply frommy terminal server? I need to fix that if it is a local
problem here.
I can connect to trmb.ca:513 without issue though.
This is also what I have found, and I don't understand if my terminal serverwill answer rlogin, why not telnet.

You have been failing for a while?
Did you connect with telnet at one time but can't do that now?

I've never managed a telnet connect other than the web telnet. port 23 gave me the same message I saw someone else post.

It looks like you are not getting any answer on the telnet port?
When I go to canyouseeme.org or the Synchronet
port check page they see my telnet and other ports open.

I was now able to connect to Telnet & SSH no problem. I wasn't able to connect to RLogin, but this was from my work which sometimes does funky things, so could be my end.

BTW you should really reconsider .... having telnet enabled in 2020 is a very bad idea!

I think that is a message from your client trying to explain the failure.

Thanks for checking. I'll keep an eye on rlogin and see if that needs adjusting.
Definitely not. Whatever is accepting connections at trba.ca:23 is definitly sending the string "Telnet service is disabled or Your telnet session has expired due to inactivity." - this is not a string sent by Synchronet or from the client (e.g. SyncTERM).
Just tried RLogin from home and it seems to be working fine.
Good stuff. I'm about to try a few changes and see if I can get the right servers answering!

It's weird, if I search for that exact string on shodan, it comes up 65,121 times in Canada and seemingly all from independent ISPs like TekSavvy, Primus & Distributel:

Same here, remote unexpectedly closed connection.

Behaviour on your side changed.
It used to simply reset the connection.
Now it IS working.
Re: Re: telnet test, anyoneand ssh are still being blocked for some reason. I'm going to have to use non standard ports until I can find a way to clear that blockage.

This looks like your ISP is blocking, other IPs on the same subnet also give the same error. You should maybe talk to them about getting port 23 opened up.
