US Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is clearly delusional.
This is what the poor guy said today, concerning the election -

"If Republicans don't challenge and changethe US election
system, there wil never be another Republican president
elected again. President Trump should not concede. We're
down to less -- 10,000 votes in Georgia. He's going to win
North Carolina. We have gone from 93,000 votes to less than
20,000 votes in Arizona, where more -- more votes to be
counted."

Notice the Trump campaign has provided absolutely no evidence
to back up any of the president's outlandish claims.

"So, what happened? The Trump team has canvassed all early
voters and absentee mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania. And

that we verifiedthat have been dead who voted. But there is
the one that gets me. Six people registered after they died
and voted. In Pennsylvania, I guess you're never out of it."

Oh, my. I gotta move to Pennsylvania. That way I will never

Maybe he is just a realist. The election system is already rigged to produce better outcomes for the Republicans and the incumbent president is still losing. They rarely win the popular vote and the senate does not represent the majority (of voters).

Too bad that sane Republican candidates don't win elections anymore, only the polarizing extremists which are just incompetent politicians. In 4 years a candidate that still is a climate change denier will have a very slim chance to get elected. It's catch-22. If the candidate is a right-wing populist, swing voters vote for the democrat. If s/he is sane and moderate, it's not polarizing enough that enough of the crazy people cast their vote.

But maybe the voters will change the party over the years by not electing the annoying and intimidating white men anymore who run the GOP nowadays. Only time will tell.

But, watching various Karen/Kevin video clips on Youtube, it's easy to see that it's all about the US educational system. After all, how can you brainwash 70 million people unless they are all totally uneducated? As in "no college for you mate, back to the coal mines for you!"

But maybe the voters will change the party over the years by not
electing the annoying and intimidating white men anymore who run the GOP nowadays. Only time will tell.

I think you're dangerously close to the truth.

A more and more larger portion of the US youth in the Red states is home-schooled, most belong to religious groups such as the LDS and other groups and as such become a state inside the state. They have not had the opportunity to learn to think for themselves but were trained to do as their religious leaders and/or parents. Examples exist in the Z1-portion of the nodelist.

Yes he is. The public education system in the US sucks ass.

In Texas, for example, they have this statewide test requirement at different grade levels. One of those Basic Skills type of things.

That in itself isn't bad. You should have minimum standards of education levels to proceed ahead.

The problem is, that far too many schools are only teaching to pass that test.

So you have an entire generation that isn't getting a decent education.

While that is certainly true in some cases, the public school systems do little better. And many parents fail their children as well, leaving all of the child's education to the education system.

One of my granddaughters is being homeschooled. That's not simply her mother teaching her. She is enrolled in an online school and has to log onto it for regular lessons with an actual teacher.

In her case, it's a health issue. Even before this whole Covid thing. She has severe asthma, bad enough that it has hospitalized her on several occasions. Regular school failed her because of attendance. With the homeschool, she can still attend her classes online while taking her treatments for her asthma, which just isn't possible in public school.

That did not stop FDR (and his party) from winning the White House
(and both houses of Congress) from winning for two decades. Biden won
by a margin even greater than FDR in his first term, so it looks like
happy days are here again. At least for another twenty years or so.

Too bad that sane Republican candidates don't win elections anymore, only the polarizing extremists which are just incompetent politicians.

There are several sane and competent Republicans around. But they
have been scared to death by Trump's scorched earth politics. If a
Republican does not do as Trump says, Trump primaries him. Kind of
like kneecapping - an old Sicilian tradition.

The other problem Republicans have is there are not enough blacks
and other minorities in their party to keep them competitive. As a
result, the Democrats will continue to control the House, and also
continue to gain seats in the Senate. And with a black woman as
vice president, the Democrats will likely remain control of the White
House for a very long time.

In 4 years a candidate that still is a climate change denier will have a very slim chance to get elected. It's catch-22.

Doesn't matter. The current president is so in debt that the only
way he can make money is to run for president once he leaves office.
In other words, ask for donations the minute he walks out of the
door.

If the candidate is a right-wing populist, swing voters vote for the democrat.

George Wallace was a right-wing populist. And also a democrat.
He got elected to four terms as governor of Alabama. And also came
close to winning the presidency. The guy was Nixon's worst nightmare.
Would probably have won had he not been gunned down by a would-be
assassin.

If s/he is sane and moderate, it's not polarizing enough that enough of

George Wallace only lost one contest in his entire life. He ran
for district attorney in a local race, as a moderate democrat.

After that race, he hired a speechwriter who was a klansman. That

This century for sure even moreso than was obvious in the second half of the 20th, the divisiveness of people seems to be pushed more and more, even by those who claim to be against it.

Perhaps the US is on a downward spiral it won't recover from. It's not something I expected.
