So, will the navigator ever advance to the 32-bit world of today?--- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.1
With win98, xp, me, 2000, all being very commonly used, 16-bit is so
out of date. Otherwise, it just makes the navigator useless. Maybe
just release a publis source for writing a custom navigator, and let
people create 16- or 32- bit as they desire.
We have heard several times now that updating has/is being considered.
There are other fish frying right now in Hector's kitchen that need to
be watched more closely.
Although a bit archaic, wcnav and the nav clients are not totally
'useless', especially in a world where many people with less than 'state
of the art' machines and software are concerned.
For the present, I'm happy it is still supported without abused or
broken 'standards' and functionality which would possibly be instituted
by publicly releasing the source.
I do not say that improvement are not needed or that we shouldn't be
allowed to 'experiment', but the whole WINS package as a whole is fairly unified and I for one prefer it that way.

well, personally, I don't see any good reason to still use WCNav.
I keep it for download on my system, but it's not used by anyone.

Yeah, but it would be a nice way to make some interesting winserver client/server software, if it was 32-bit.
Plus, if it was 32-bi9t, and therefore more viable and energetic,
maybe more people would use it.

Navigator is a potent marketing tool, IMHO. Clean interface, differentiation, perceived value.
32-bit would be very welcome. And one or two extra optional buttons in
the Connection Manager window pointing to http:// adresses of sysop
choice would help make it work even better as a site specific navigation
bar (e.g. one extra button for your real estate database, chat, etc).

That's the nice thing. It allows you to add buttons, and features. But currently only in 16-bit. As you said, it could be a great tool.
Like AOLs front end, or the front end to a number of online games. I
think Santronics has pretty much moved away from the Nav so far.
Maybe we'll see them drop something new about it in the future.

I've considered this, but wasn't sure we could without some sort of resource to give us client server acces similar to the navigator. Currently the sdk only works through the current navigator, Correct?

Good question.. Hector? does the SDK only work through the current Navigator?
Dean Brooks
So can the navigator sdk work without the navigator?
