The US Senate has asked questions to the six largest US airlines about the shortage of flight personnel. Because there are too few pilots or cabin crew members, flight cancellations regularly occur.
Airlines have been able to use a support package from the US government since last year. This is intended, among other things, to be able to pay salaries and to prevent layoffs as much as possible. Despite the $54 billion in government aid, thousands of workers were sent home, even though redundancies were not allowed.
Now that air traffic in the US is increasing, it appears that there are regularly too few personnel to carry out all flights. Senator Maria Cantwell has asked the directors of American, Delta and Southwest Airlines, among others, for an explanation, reports Reuters news agency.
