The investigation into the Sriwijaya Air Boeing 737-500 accident is focused on the aircraft's autothrottle. A few days before the crash, there were problems with this system, which controls the engine power of an aircraft. It is still unclear whether this problem caused the crash.
Researcher Nurcayho Utomo of the Indonesian Transport Security Council KNKT says to Reuters that he does not yet know the nature of the problem. The problem was reported in the aircraft maintenance log a few days before the crash.
Utomo hopes that the Cockpit Voice Recorder recordings can provide clarity about the cause of the crash, which killed all 62 on January 9. So far only the Flight Data Recorder has been fished out of the sea.
