American Airlines once again operates flights with the McDonnell Douglas MD-80.
The American airline said goodbye to the twin-engine type in September, but has now donated two aircraft to technical training.
CareerTech in Oklahoma City and Lewis University in Romeoville will both be provided with an MD-80. This allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. American Airlines therefore flew an MD-80 with registration N9621A to Oklahoma on Thursday, followed by a flight with the N501AA to Illinois on Friday.
The MD-80 has been the workhorse of American Airlines on domestic routes since the 1980s. Since 2009, a total of eight airplanes have now been donated to training institutions.

This could, of course, also be viewed as a low-cost way of getting rid of the airframes without having to pay for the parking and disposal.
