    Communication with the dead (necromancy) is dangerous, and has
    demonic overtones...never mind it is forbidden in The Bible. Folks
    doing this are literally "playing with fire".

    So far it hasn't happened that I am aware of but with fidonet it is likely tempered with poorly thought out protocols and 'standards'. I am still not sure how an echomail based Ouija board would actually work within the context of currently accepted ftn practices. Offhand I am guessing it would have to be a ANSIfied doorgame type dealie. Also the dead might require nodenumbers with some sort of nodelist flags that could be deployed to differentiate them from a regular dead fidonet nodes.

    Folks doing this are literally "playing with fire".

    communicating with? It could be aliens or Sidhe.

    I like the special nodelist flag idea so that certain nodes could be used as portals and/or gateways between the living and the dead. That way messages created by the dead people using an well thought out digital Ouija board could be transcribed to the ftn msg format and then distributed to those living persons concerned.

    As for aliens or Sidhe I believe regular msg'ing apps could be deployed since they probably don't use Ouija boards for communications. They'd just need a nodenumber and someone(s) to connect with for echomail distribution.

    Keep it simple I say.

    How do you know they don't use telepathy and telekenisis to communicate through the board? After all, we don't know enough about them. And have you seen how difficult it is to get a node number assigned?
