I am reading that Netherland is switching to hydrogen gas
everywhere.
Not that I'm aware of...
I'd certainly hope not. Hydrogen gas isn't really a good idea, looking back historically.
"The Netherlands has a problem. It has a unique pipeline network dedicated to carrying the specific lower-calorific value quality
gas of its giant Groningen field. Having legislated to wind down Groningen production, the grid will no longer be needed. Its
solution? Integrate these pipelines into one of Europe's most
ambitious hydrogen visions." [From: https://www.petroleum-economist.com/articles/midstream- downstream/pipelines/2020/hydrogen-to-breathe-new-life-into- dutch-pipelines] Maybe it is something just for industry, not
homes.

Possibly, that link is giving me a 404 error.

Maybe it is something just for industry, not homes.Almost every home is connected to the gas network. So it certainly
would be for home too! But realizing this is a long way in the
future, probably decades...

From what I've read so far, it will take a lot of work to change over.

Probably, hydrogen gas differs a lot from natural gas...
I did read metal pipes would corrode quicker with hydrogen.

I did read metal pipes would corrode quicker with hydrogen.Possibly. What also might be a factor is the plastic pipes they
use these days. They might be more porous to hydrogen, because H2
is probably a smaller molecule, compared to natural gas.

That's true. Although I did see something about polyethylene pipes
well.

through them to apply some kind of coating. Don't they run welder
bots for repairs?
Or... slide in sections of plastic into existing pipes?
