• Chromium and remembering passwords

From William Unruh@2:250/1 to All on Tue Jun 1 01:04:03 2021
    Chromium chromium-browser-stable-89.0.4389.128-1.mga8
    on Mageia 8.

Chromium seems not to be remembering my passwords, etc. It used to do
so without trouble, but since upgrading to Mageia 8 it has stopped. It
offers to remember them (eg when I log into some location the window
comes up asking if I want to remember, but it does not do so, or
sometimes it does, but only if I remain in that instance of chromium. )
Chrome is also having this problem.

In Setup, the "remember passwords" is clicked on, but there are no
passwords listed. This has been going on for weeks. Any idea what is
    happening here?

None from me. I do not run Chromium.

First thing to check if it is a user problem. Use a test account to
see if it works. If so, As a user. I suggest exporting whatever is
    exportable, rename/delete all Chromium files/directories, log out/in
run Chromium, import whatever was exported, exit Chromium.

Above assumes you have verified all files owned by $USER.
    find $HOME \( -not -user $USER -or -not -group $USER \) -exec ls -ald '{}' \;

    Have you disabled Kwallet

Rename all Chromium config filesFolders in ~/HOME and see 9if ti still
    fails

Doing a google search, I discovered others have had the same problem,
    and suggested deleting .config/chromium/Data/Login\ Data\ *.
The same problem happened in google-chrome, in which was ..config/google-chrome/Data/Login\ Data\ *
I did that and it seemed to work in that both began saving the passwords
    again.

Both of these problems occured after I updated Mageia from 7 to 8.
However the solution did not restore all of the passwords which had been
    saved before-- a real pain.

Keep a separate text file of your passwords in the future. You
can encrypt it if you can remember the password/phrase to unlock it.
Letting a tool* keep it for you may be Ok but I fear that anyone
who understands the tool may know right where your passwords are
    and can replace them.

I do keep an encrypted password storage, but many of the passwords on
google are throw away. sites demand a password, when there is absolutely nothing the password protects. It is an idiotic password, but if one
wants to use the site they force on to allot a password. Cluttering up a password store with those makes finding real passwords harder, and also
means I have to open up the password store, find the password, copy the password, and then close the store, instead of just getting on with what
    I wanted to do.
