• Epson printer driver.

From Doug Laidlaw@2:250/1 to All on Thu Aug 27 12:37:34 2020
My Brother MFC failed a few days ago. A set of nozzles (cyan) in the
print head stopped working. A new cartridge made no difference, and the manufacturer started talking about not buying their ink cartridges. A
Web page suggested that the print head could possibly be cleaned with a cartridge full of isopropyl alcohol.

Victoria got on the wrong foot with COVID right from the start. Hotel quarantine practices were not observed. As a result, Victoria is still
in lockdown, and many products are unavailable. There were no Brother printers in town, so I bought an equivalent Epson MFC, model ET-2710.
The box and the Web site says that Linux isn't supported. Linux drivers
in .deb and RPM format dated 2019 are on the Web site, but they don't
seem to help. The screen said that the driver was loaded, but it
wouldn't print. There is a source code driver on git, but only for the scanner.

    Has anybody had better luck?

    TIA,

    Doug.

This was on a wireless connection. I preferred USB, but the location of
the USB socket was not marked. In daylight, I found it. ON USB, the
normal MCC setup tool found it immediately and it works! The printer machinery is even noisier than the Brother one, but beggars can't be
    choosers.

Looking at the margins on the CUPS test print, the Epson seems to have detected my standard A4 paper automatically. The Brother driver defaults
to U.S. Letter. The Brother printer was of more solid construction; I wouldn't recommend the Epson for anything approaching continuous use.
