My wife's logon configuration has changed so that windows no longer have
a titlebar (and thus lost all ability to maximize, minimize, move or
destroy the window). I cannot figure out how to bring everything back
When the windows is created, it has no titlebar and thus none of control buttons. Putting the mouse on the border no longer gives the possibility
of changing the size of the window. In systemsettings, alt-mousebuttons
is set to enable resizing and moving, but that does not work.
I am completely unable to figure out how to bring proper behaviour back.
My own account on that machine does not have this problem, so it is a individual user configuration problem.
What do I do to let her regain control of her windows?
I have looked thoughout systemsettings, and can find nothing anywhere
which would allow me to do so.
We have closed down her session, and relogged in-- no change.
Note that SystemSettings has no quit button so the only way I can get
out of SystemSettings is to open a terminal from the Mageia Menu (the
desktop Konsole is hidden by the SystemSettings window) and type in
killall systemsettings5
Note also that all windows open with the same size in the top left
corner of the desktop.
Mageia 6 updated. Desktop machine Desktop is KDE Plasma.
Another thing, I have crossmonted her home directory to my Mageia 7If it was my machine I would create a new account for her and
machine and I get the same problem if she logs in there. So it is not
some Mageia 6 peculiarity.

(of all places; someone had converted a MintMate to KDE).
He said the condition can be duplicated/caused by R click titlebar and choose More Actions/ No borders. Presumably 'by accident' !?
This results in no borders and also no titlebar! Naturally that is a catch-22 because you can't re-click the titlebar to return to the
setting to undo it.
I booted a current Neon KDE and killed/disappeared the titlebar by using
No borders as above. Upon doing so, I got a warning which describes the problem of no titlebar and gives/explains an alt-F3 remedy.
That remedy is to locate the focus in a window (I was using the Dolphin
file manager's) and alt-F3 gave me access to that More actions No
borders again which I could unclick and get my titlebar back.
I open a konsole window, left click on the window ( so typing in the
window appears on the console line.) If I click alt-F3 all I get is a
capital R appearing on the line.

I can't figure out how to make the above happen in Neon.
No matter whether I focus by L click in the file area of Dolphin (or Konsole) or that console line, I get the same menu to fix the problem.
I can't get alt-F3 to put an R in the konsole line.

Unfortunately that did not work. Alt F3 did nothing (well if the window
was a Konsole window, I would get a R on the command line when I hit
alt-F3. Certainly no menu. ) I tried alt-F3 on my account ( where the titlebar/border had not disappeared) and I got that menu. But on the
problem account, no menu appeared.
It seems that kwin_x11 was not running on that account at all. If I
either started kwin_x11 (eg kwin_x11 --replace & in the Konsole window) the
borders and title bar. So, for some reason kwin_x11 was not being
started when I started X (startx -- :2 or plasma logon screen)

So you ran it without kwin?

Could be a universal windows setting that someone has configured, check "windows management/window rules"
Also a broken windows decoration would make the borders disappear, so I would recommend to try to change in "application style/window
decorations", but this wouldn't affect the size and location of newly
opened windows. An update of KDE can break a custom window decoration as those ain't updated unless you manually update them and then it depends
on the author to see it's up to date with the latest KDE version.
