I have been hoping one of the maintainers would update kdenlive but no
    such luck

I haven't found an updated rpm anywhere either

    Any ideas?

    regards

Mageia doesn't do version updates unless there are security or bug fixes that are not applicable to the current version.

I haven't found an updated rpm anywhere either

You could try the cauldron version, though I have no idea how many dependencies
would be needed in Mageia 7. It may be best to try a cauldron install or wait for Mageia 8.

The path of least resistance is to wait. :-)

    Thanks Dave

    There are tutorials on line.
But like all tutorials you have to wade through an enormous amount of extraneous stuff to uncover the piece of info that you need

It's a bit like RTFM - a lot of time wasted for little return

    regards

And you do that using a webcam connected to the PC??? I've never done
that, I should give it a try.

I gave kdenlive a try om my Lenovo laptop with a webcam. Apparently
kdenlive didn't want to capture anything. Googling I found a reference to guvcview. Installed that one from the repos, and it made a decent capture
from the webcam in a .mkv file. And that one I could insert as a clip in kdenlive. That's as far as I went.
