• TOT: One for the railway enthusiasts - what is this?

    Throughout my life I've noticed underneath railway platforms these
    plates with what look like mechanical sliders, and it's taken all this
    time for me to realise that I have no idea what they're for. Does
    anyone know?

    I admit to knowing it. Like you I’ve seen them and wondered what they were. Can’t remember how I tracked (no pun intended) it down.
