Thanks Mark. I only bought a freeview box for the front room because
freesat lost C4 HD. I'll go back to all Freesat now. Especially as I
have found a secondhand multiswitch to replace the one that got zapped
    by the power cuts.

What exactly has come back? My Raspberry Pi / DVB-S2 setup has had CH4 HD
for a long time: I had to check that it hadn't just auto-added it in the
last day or so, but it's been there all along.

Is it that CH4 HD has been transmitted all along but not been part of the Freesat list of channels/LCNs? Is it like the way that you can receive any
ITV region, but if you use Freesat, it asks for the postcode, and then maps LCNs 3 and 103 (or Freesat equivalents) to the "correct" ITV region for your postcode?

About half-a-dozen channels came in. Deleted 5 of them and now need to
delete one of those that I kept as padding just so that the EPG had a whole number of 7-channel steps.
The whole number has a minor convenience when checking the day a week ahead
and the other use is easily telling if a crapchannel has crept in.

    Discovered by chance that https://www.tvguide.co.uk/ has 13 days' on it;
also has summaries for those channels that lack them on the EPG (Ch. 5 is
    about the worst).

Ah. Now I come to think of it, when I was setting up my Raspberry Pi with TVHeadend, I seem to remember I told it to use the CH4 *SD* EPG because the
HD one was almost non-existent - though now I look for that configuration, I can't see anything which defines it. Given that my setup can receive the
same channels from both satellite and terrestrial, I may have instead chosen always to use the EPG from CH 4 HD *terrestrial*, even if TVHeadend happens
to choose to record from satellite depending on what other recordings are
    set.

This level of control and complexity (and nerdishness!) is not available for dedicated satellite PVRs... Looking back at what I've set up (and documented lest I forget) the more impressed I am with myself ;-) Did I really do it myself or did I have divine inspiration guiding me?

My Enigma 2 box/PVR has both terrestrial and satellite tuners which I
use for free to air channels/programs and I have also been getting CH4
HD from satellite with a 7 day over the air EPG (from satellite) whilst
it has not been on the Freesat platform. In my case I use the Sky IEPG
data channel - which I've configured the box to tune in for around 10
    minutes each morning.

According to my Humax it has always been there. I even reset everything to check, when Mark said it was coming back. However now Humax has changed so that Channel old HD location has become SD and Channel 4 HD is at 126. I assume that
Freesat EPG determines the labelling of the channels and not Humax?

because the govt want to give Channel 4 away, the current management are busy signing long term contracts. For example, every F1 race live next year.

If it was Channel 104, then it was (and still is) the SD version of C4.

Ch 126 is C4 HD, and was prior to 2018 I think.

3.75 years in fact. They came off Freesat in February 2018
Why did Freesat label Channel 4 SD as HD?
They didn't. Ch4 SD and CH4 HD have been broadcast in parallel.

As previously mentioned CH4 HD was still being broadcast on satellite
but the 7 day Electronic programme Guide (EPG) was removed from the
Freesat platform. Sky users and those with the appropriate equipment
have been able to view CH4 HD with a full 7 day EPG for the past 3.75
years. Ch4 SD 7 day EPG remained on the Freesat platform.

Dedicated Freesat boxes may have "lost" CH4 HD or it may have been found >>> in the alternative Free To Air section but with only a limited now/next
    program guide.
I had the whole thing on a Humax box without having to go to free to air mode.
If it was Channel 104, then it was (and still is) the SD version of C4.

Ch 126 is C4 HD, and was prior to 2018 I think.

Until it moved from 104 to 126on my Freesat Humax PVR 104 was always labelled HD.
I think the Humax PVR gets its labelling from Freesat. I reinitialised my PVR when you said it wasn't HD. It still showed 104 as HD. You are and were right that 104 was actually SD, despite the labelling.
