• [OT] My current pet annoyance

From John Hall@21:1/5 to All on Sat Mar 18 09:55:37 2023
As I like to watch "Pointless" , I usually catch the last few minutes of "Bridge of Spies". It's starting to really annoy me that, at the end of
every programme, Danny Dyer seems to tell the contestants that they did "brilliantly", even when - as on yesterday's episode - they have
displayed such a staggering lack of general knowledge that one wonders
why they chose to go on a quiz show.
    --
John Hall "Do you have cornflakes in America?"
    "Well, actually, they're American."
"So what brings you to Britain then if you have cornflakes already?"

The one I see on BBC1 has Ross Kemp, rather than Danny Dyer, and the
progamme is called "Bridge of Lies". He has less hair than Danny, to
    start with.
Are you in a different part of the country with different programming?

The producers have a vetting procedure for people who apply to be on the
show. I guess it would become even more boring if all the contestants
were knowledgeable. The idiots are chosen for audience participation -
shouting at the TV when contestants get even the simplest of questions
    wrong.

It is Ross Kemp, I found him very annoying so don't watch the programme.

I don't have a problem with him. Now, if it was Laura Kuenssberg, I
would probably spill my coffee in my haste to reach the channel-changer.

On the shows that I have seen, the knowledge gap often appear to be
age-based, indicating to me that children nowadays are not taught the
general knowledge AND HISTORY that used to be the case.

I never watch it, but I thought the whole idea was to get zero points that would suit me.

Actually I quite like him. kind of off beat deadpan sense of humour that not all get.
However never really watched his shows all the way through as often they do not otherwise appeal to me, Each to their own.

I think as an annoyance the one where a programme with AD suddenly cuts to adverts in the middle of a phrase from AD, as if we don't matter. This
leaves the TV with the sound ducked and you need to flip away and back to
the channel to restore the volume as the unmute is often missing when it
comes back from the adds as is the rest of the phrase being Audio described. Surely it should be possible to cut to adds when no AD or dialogue is being spoken?

Sorry, I meant to type "Bridge of Lies" but my fingers apparently had
different ideas. And I also got Ross Kemp and Danny Dyer mixed up, never
having watched either man in any other programme.
