• Satellite connection puzzle on new LG TV

From David@21:1/5 to All on Tue Mar 7 13:48:24 2023
I have been connecting satellite cables to TVs and set top boxes for some
    years now.

Today I am setting up my new LG TV and can't get the cable to connect.

I've unscrewed the connector from my Humax and tried to screw it onto the
TV but the screw thread will not engage.

On closer inspection the connector (female thread) on the TV has a sort of bullet nose before the thread starts.

On the Humax the end is flat and the thread starts immediately.

I am using standard screw on F-plug connectors which have worked for me on
    all connections so far.

Is there a known alternative F-connector style (deeper thread, perhaps) or
do I have a dodgy TV?

    Nothing is simple.

    Cheers

Noting that these right angle adapters <https://www.amazon.co.uk/Coaxial-Connector-Adapters-Satellite-Connection- Silver/dp/B08PBG4ZJJ>
Also seem to have a bit of a shoulder instead of the thread starting immediately.

So now wondering if my venerable stock of F-connectors is out of date for
    some reason.

A quick check shows that the connectors on my wall sockets downstairs are
fine with only a minimal shoulder.

    More testing required.

    Cheers

    Gah!

    Operator error.

I tried a spare cable and that went straight on.
Further fiddling showed that the central conductor wasn't going in
    properly.
A good shove and suddenly the connector moved in and the thread engaged.

All this started because the Humax wasn't showing BBC1 HD which the
programme guide showed had moved to 101.

The TV is showing BBC East 101 so I now have to re-cable to the Humax and
    try again.

I'm leaving the TV on satellite for the moment as it is loading channels
    and the associated Freesat guide.

It's just updated the software so at some point it needs to restart -
assume this is just power off then power on again.

    Cheers

No it hasn't moved, that is the Freeview (DVB-T) variant.

    Which is satellite (DVB-S)

My TV (which doesn't have FreeSat, but does have satellite, including multiple satellites) and almost certainly your LG TV can probably receive both. Even my 2009 LG 42ff7700 would do both (but not Freeview HD).

I think if you select "yes" it will restart and initialise the new version.

We were looking at a 32" LG Smart TV (32LQ63006) and that has both DVB-T
and DVB-S. Investigation suggests that DVB-S is actually Freesat only on
    this model.

LG TV's that I have come across with Freesat, also have hundreds of DVB-S channels avalable as well. More recent ones can do Disequ and connect to multiple satellite, but unless you suppress encrypted channel may only be able to store the first 5,000
