You're right, it's the Star Trek when Kirk beat the kobayashi maru.

or not, diagnosing it incorrectly, and applying the wrong remedies.

It was supposed to be showing a premier of "Infinite", and that's what
the EPG says. I set my PVR up to record it, but when I checked a few
minutes after it was supposed to start, it wasn't recording. There seems
to be a "Star Trek" film on instead, but as the EPG is still saying it's "Infinite", I don't know exactly what film is being shown.

Thanks for the clarification. Is it a film from the "reboot" of the Star
Trek series, as it seems to have Zachary Quinto as Spock in it?

Yes the EPG is incorrect on both Freeview and Freesat. Its showing one
of the star trek films and not Infinite.

I'm an apprentice Trekky but it represents Spock and the team before Kirk became captain of Enterprise, not sure when it was actually broadcast.

There was an announcement on C4+1 just before 2200 which said that due
to technical difficulties, it was not possible to show "Infinite", and
it would be shown at a later date.

What puzzles me is why the PVR didn't record the "wrong" film anyway.
Isn't "accurate recording" linked to a signal from the EPG? If it
thought it was "Infinite" shouldn't the recording have started? Anyway,
I recorded the "Star Trek" film and it was the reboot from 2009.

It knew it wasn't "Infinite", so didn't record it, correctly. I have
had that happen, and it would usually show a recording was started, but
with 0 mins. run time. This is on a Humax Fox T2.

This brings up the question of program guides of all sorts actual accuracy.
All too often on Freeview something is advertised as having AD, but its
missing on the transmission, or some of the worst confusions seem to occur
with UKTV channels like Quest, Yesterday, Really etc, where either the description of the episode is wrong, or its completely the wrong programme.
A few weeks ago Quest had back to back Helicopter ER till those stupid 9pm paranormal programmes, but in fact, like this week one of those was Saving lives at sea, which had been on BBC2.
Its all very much like the left and right hand do not have the foggiest
idea what is really going on.
