From Brian Gaff@21:1/5 to All on Mon Dec 5 17:01:46 2022
I notice that often in the middle of afternoons they screen films full of
the F word and apparently sexual content. I was under the impression that Offcom had some say on this sort of thing? It does not bother me, but it seems a bit odd.

channels delivered via the internet are not held to ofcom standards.
they often even give an onscreen disclaimer saying as much when you
    click on them.

The world has changed since our youth. These days the F word is treated
as normal language and much of the time has no link to sexual content.

Well if they do, my Samsung voice does not read that.
This would also explain why not one of the channels has Audio Description
    as well.
So who is responsible, as it makes a bit of a mockery of these parental controls or stuff like that.
Sometimes there are good films, but with no AD they are difficult to follow
    in audio.

I think there is a watershed though. IE it seems to be around 9PM in the UK.
Back in the days of analogue TV though, when I could see, it was nothing
out of the ordinary to see naked women on some Italian channels even in advertisements. I guess they had perhaps a more healthy attitude to us repressed British!

channels delivered via the internet are not held to ofcom standards.
they often even give an onscreen disclaimer saying as much when you
    click on them.

The philosophy behind this appears to be based on an assumption that
youngsters are less likely to be watching online, despite the reality
that youngsters are often the only ones who know how to. It's similar
to the thinking that gave rise to the so-called "watershed" based on
an asumption that all youngsters are in bed by 9pm. The ostensible
purpose of all this nonsense is to protect the little darlings from
hearing words that most of them almost certainly already know. Or
maybe it's just to enable the polititians to avoid blame by signaling
that they're doing something about a problem that isn't really a
problem, even though they're not really achieving anything at all.

    Rod.

Dunno, but these channels were transmitting adult and f word stuff at 3pm
    on a Sunday afternoon.

You ought to tell us which channels so we can discuss how offended we
were when we checked them :-D

I haven't heard the word "federation" since 2016.
Even if it was I wouldn't be offended.
