from a cousin in the area (Wensley I think):

Thought you might appreciate an update. As yet we still have no signal.
I have made attempts to contact the company, Web site is useless and
phone number just gives a recorded message.
Web site does say we have a signal according to post code, but random
people in the area are still not spots.
Just as well we don't watch much but in the darker evenings we do, or
    would if we could.
Weather up here has been challenging.
Wensley and various villages had long energy outtakes, roads blocked
with fallen trees and then a reasonable amount of snow yesterday which
    also blocked roads.

I don't know which "company" she is referring to.

Almost certainly Arqiva I would have thought.

Could it be that your relative was using Bilsdale which is not the
    preferred site for their location?

Wensley is also down the side of a south-facing embankment so the path
    could well be obstructed.
I suspect the only answer here might be Freesat - at least they should
have a clear view of that!

Given that Wensley is slightly lower than Leyburn (111 m spot height rather than 176 m spot height) and is therefore in Leyburn's shadow, I'm not sure
how much better the reception used to be with the full-height, full-power Bilsdale. I imagine Scotts/JCTV in Leyburn will have been very busy trying
to alter aerials and install satellite dishes for people.

A temporary aerial on top of Pen Hill (if it was allowed in an AONB /
National Park) would solve a lot of problems ;-)

describes two new transmitters that have just been brought into service. The one at Bainbridge might benefit Wensley (and Askrigg and Aysgarth) as long
as it is omnidirectional and not aimed just *up* the dale towards Hawes and Garsdale.

Actually Bainbridge is an existing low power V polz relay. I'm told that
a much higher power horizontal plane transmission has been added to it
    (to super serve the area)

I hope they have put some other Tx aerials up as well given the existing
array gives a flat-backed cardiod directed roughly WNW where Wensley
needs a few degrees North of East.

I don't know who owns it now but the site was originally a N Yorks
Police/Fire site, hence all the VHF yagis pointed East to Cleeve Dyke
(known in mini-Bilsdale parlance as Sutton Bank.)

Having said that, I installed a fixed mobile at the ambulance station
back in analogue days using a Panorama BSV aerial attached to the TV
aerial pole and it would hit Woolmoor solid as a rock on less than five
watts! The ambulance station is the building on the south side of the
A684 about 200m east of the Blean Lane junction to the site (if you are
looking at Google sat view.) The ambulance station TV aerial was pointed
at Bilsdale and got a stonking signal - in those days of yore!

Most people have never heard of the company of course,t hey would call bbc
    or itv instead.

They would also not understand about pointing their aerial another way, it worked before kind of attitude.
I remember along while ago when we first went colour all round here people
had aerials for oxford and hannington so they could get midland and
southern, as in those days there was far more regional variation than now.
They were most put out when a London fill in came on with the same channel
    as oxford obliterating reception.
