I was exploring the Internet channels on my radio at the weekend and
    came across Radioben.

I am still puzzled about these streaming services on Internet radio,
this one had lots of music channels but I did not notice any adverts in
brief period listening so how are they financed and are they paying the
feeds for playing music and BBC comedy programmes?

But what attracted my attwntion was that they have a time station that
just reads out the time and gives very short news bulletins. Even more intriguing, there is a numbers station that is very much in the
tradition of the Lincolnshire Poacher etc!

Well spotted. I will certainly give the Big Band channel a try.

This is still my favourite as that is my taste in music http://ice64.securenetsystems.net/WKHR

I think Aljazeera has its own news gathering organisations, these other
online stations are more likely to be like the pirate radio stations
(and some UK commercial stations I understand) who copied news item from
CEEFAX in the past and now will do the same for other online news sites.

Very unlikely they produce any of their own content.

I also cannot imagine them paying all the rights costs for any music
they broadcast unless they stick to copyright free content.

Depends where they are based. Some countries are not signed up to the international rights system. I don't think New Zealand is for one.
