• half-height subtitles!

    From J. P. Gilliver@21:1/5 to All on Thu Feb 22 19:49:10 2024
I'm watching NCIS on FreeView 21, and the subtitles are half-height! Two
lines of subtitle taking about the same vertical space as one normally
does, or when only one, about a half height. Same width as usual.

I assumed it was my set failing, but I switched to a couple of other
channels (1 [BBCONE] and 27 [Yesterday]) and back, and the subtitles
were normal on those, but back to half when I went back to 21. I tried
putting the set in standby and coming back out - they stayed
    half-height.

It's on a commercial break now - and most of those have subtitles, which
are appearing normal height. Let's see ... no, they're back to
half-height when the programme came back.

(Obviously data corruption in the program file; I just can't think why
there would _be_ a half-height facility!)

    They look normal here.

Or they can specify the font. They appear to be using a monospaced one
whereas on Dave, it looks proportional. The fonts are certainly
different. Maybe there's an option for point size in your settings!

They returned to normal in the following programme (which was another
episode of NCIS [though - in the weird way these minor channels have -
that doesn't mean it was the _following_ episode]).

    Look at those early black-and-white episodes of /Coronation Street/;
like Ibsen in an flowered pinny. - Iam McMillan, RT 2020/2/22-28
