• The inexorable move to online-only

    From J. P. Gilliver@21:1/5 to All on Thu Dec 14 03:15:18 2023
For some reason, Channel 5 remade "All Creatures Great and Small", the
Herriot (Alf White) vet series. They've done a pretty good job IMO,
though I'm not sure _why_ - the original '80s series is on channel 20/60
on weekday afternoons (16:15), and on the whole holds up well - OK, a
_few_ technical aspects (of 40+ year old TV!) we've discussed here, but
really I don't notice anything other than the different shape.

The new series started out as a weekly broadcast - I think it was 21:00
on Thursdays. But it seems to have disappeared - but is still being
plugged across their channels, but only mentioning online. I don't
remember seeing any announcement that they were ceasing the broadcasts,
    though.

Her [Valerie Singleton's] main job on /Blue Peter/ was to stop unpredictable creatres running amok. And that was just John Noakes.

That does seem to support what I said - that they stopped a regular,
weekly broadcast in the middle of a series. But thanks.

It does seem to be a C5 trait - they will interrupt or pull
series, or change schedules late in the day, often well after
    publication of programme guides.

The past few seasons have had 7 episodes. So far there have been six in
season 4, and the one on the 21st is billed as being a Christmas special.

Ah, I see. I didn't realise they'd had that many series of the remake! I thought one or two at most. How memory fades!

Including the forthcoming Christmas special, there have been 28 episodes so far. They are listed on IMDB

I've not actually watched any of the new series yet. I've recorded them all
and they are in my "to be binge-watched" pile ;-)

To follow myself up, tonight they have, for reasons best known to
themselves, broadcast "Shop Smart, Save Money" (re-badged "Gadget
Show") usually aired on Fridays, and moved tonight's listed "Air
    Fryers:..." to tomorrow. ??
