• Roger Bolton (Feedback)

From Scott@21:1/5 to All on Mon Aug 29 18:04:08 2022
Why has the decision to remove Roger Bolton from Radio 4's Feedback
programme been made by the BBC? I thought the whole point was that
Feedback should be produced by an independent production company in
order to challenge the BBC. Surely they should choose the presenter?

Alternatively, what about Ofcom choosing :-)

The report I read seemed to suggest the new production company changed
    the presenter?

The BBC did not make the decision, as Mr. Bolton was not directly
employed by them, though they may have made a request.

Reading an article about this, it seems the programme has always been
and still will be produced by an independent company, and as the result
of a periodic tendering process, this company has changed, presumably
because the new one is cheaper. The BBC have always just paid the
production company for the rights to broadcast it.

Possibly Mr. Bolton has not come to a mutually satisfying financial
arrangement with the new production company? Or he may have decided not
to bother making the change, as he's getting bored or can't be bothered
making the commute to the new studio?

That is what I thought, if programmes were all still made in house then
he would probably still be doing it (unless tempted away by the large
salaries that commercial radio stations seem to be paying).

This BBC report quotes without challenge that was the BBC's decision

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-62712155

"The BBC have decided someone else needs to take it over."

It also reports that he is 76. While some can continue to function
fully as they approach 80 there are many others who can't.

    That's not his position:

Exactly. That was my point. If this is produced by an 'independent' production company to challenge the BBC, why should the BBC decide the presenter? It would be like me getting to pick my own judge next time
    I go to court :-)
