I think everyone must have changed to gardening as they most certainly are
not using Usenet for the last couple of months.

I see no particular drop-off in most groups I read.

Well most of them then have to be on threads with whiskers, as I see no new ones.

I know you have your reasons for using OutlookExpress, but I think that's responsible for the issues you see from time to time.

Why? You can change the views in many ways, so having fiddled with views, I still don't see much genuinely new.
So what news reader would you use, as soon I'll have to change, since there
is no way OE or certain derivatives will work on Windoze 11. Thunderbird, to marry up mail and news interfaces? Trouble with that on the mail side the
last time I looked you could not easily screen off accounts using
identities, since all the emails come in at the same time and are only seperatable after they arrive. I like the fact that I can ignore email from
the account I may be using for one of my volunteering jobs and just read the personal stuff without wading through the clutter.

Yes, see my comment about normal clients. I wonder if one can make it use
keys that Microsoft programs use as muscle memory can be a hard thing to overcome.

I know what you mean about muscle memory but

    1) thunderird doesn't make hotkeys editable

    2) even if it did (or people claim there are ways and means) I would avoid doing
it, since you'd then be in a limbo-land running one program with the key mappings of another, and "normal" users would find it harder to help give you info about what keys to press.

If you're going to jump to a different program, then make it one big jump I'd say.

Yes I know, but maybe for email it should be Outlook for this one account.
Keep using the other for newsgroups and accounts that do not use these new fangled security wotsits. I can forsee a lot of my blind friends struggling
as they will mainly use Guide Connect which is a windows front end with bespoke email web browsers and other things that are not part of any
    windows suite.
Also their advice for mobile phones seems vague. Surely if you use the
native I-phone email client it should just work??

Brian Gaff fairly regularly reports this problem in various groups,
which I suspect is something to do with him using Outlook Express and a
screen reader to access usenet, rather than usenet being broken or not
    being used.

As I said, very few new threads apparent here. Lots of old followups though.
I may well refresh the lot when I get time.

Hmm, difficult to know whether to use order by subject, by date or indeed
