    Most of the current crop of radio stations from commercial beginnings were a whole lot better than their shiny new networked clones we see now. I
    remember when Smooth operations launched their station being a spin off
    from ex bbc folk and they had interviews and programs dedicated to Country music and all sorts of goodies, then they were bought out and we have an
    easy listening clone of Magic.
    County Sound was another loss to the local community that went clone having trendy names instead of their area name. Even Capital Radio used to do
    concerts of acts like Dr Hook etc and when CDs first came out they removed
    the signal processing and had a program featuring the new releases in
    dynamic stereo, now we have a station playing forgettable tunes and
    compressed to hell and back.

    I'll not go on its far too depressing.
