• [OT] Does Radio Free Europe still broadcast?

From Pamela@21:1/5 to All on Sun Mar 20 19:05:41 2022
I came across some intriguing videos of the Ukraine War posted by Radio
    Free Europe.

They used to have a broadcast radio station but I can't find it. Is it
    still available?

It would be interesting despite being U.S. government propaganda.

The shortwave transmitting stations of Radio Liberty and Radio Free
Europe in Lampertheim and Biblis in Germany do still exist. They carry broadcasts to the Middle East (mainly for Iran, Pakistan and
Afghanistan) and East Africa, see https://www.radioeins.de/programm/sendungen/medienmagazin/radio_news/beitraege/2019/farda_kurzwelle.html.
I am not aware of any shortwave broadcasts by RFE/RL to the Ukraine or
    to Russia.

    Regards,
    Uli

Thanks for the info. Doesn't seem there's anything in English.

The BBC's first news about this gave the frequency as 4875 kHz, which
was wrong. The Radioworld reference gives:
    15735 kHz 16:00 - 18:00
    5875 kHz 22:00 - 00:00

I listened to 5875 kHz at 22:00 last night and there was a programme on
that frequency. I am no great linguist, but I would have said it was in
a Chinese langauge, not a Russian one.

These are additional frequencies for the BBC World Service in English,
beamed to the Ukraine and Russia, both apparently originating from
Woofferton (UK). They can be picked up easily here on the continent, but
(due to the peculiarities of short wave propagation) not as well within
    the UK.

Since last Sunday the BBC has replaced 15735 kHz with 15740 kHz and 5875
with 11680 kHz, at slightly different times: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/2x9tqt6mc05vB2S37j8MWMJ/global-short-wave-frequencies
    ("Russia and Ukraine").
