    I knew some were happening.

Smithsonian used to be on 56, and is now on 57. I have _not_ done a
    retune.

I typed in 56 (I had been watching 2). My set didn't change channel, but
a message appeared - I think it said "invalid channel". Fair enough.

I typed 57, and Smithsonian came up. Again, fair enough.

BUT: a message appeared telling me it had moved, and where to go to find
out about how to do a retune (as if I don't know by now!).

So what gives? If my set will no longer get it on 56, but now will on
57, why do I need a retune? And why is it telling me it has moved, when
I'm viewing it having typed in the new number?

You can tell that you are getting old when typing VCR into a document [results that the spell checker] wants to change it to Vicar.

Well, my Samsung has apparently done a retune recently since channels have renamed and moved about which is really irritating when you memorised where they were for many years. I suspect more of this is in the pipeline. So Paramount is now 5 Action and was it 23 now blasting banal trailers for BBC
    3 rubbish.

If you don't want BBC 3, (and very few do) then don't retune, and
everything will remain 'as is'. Simples.

Isn’t that just putting things off? Eventually you have to do a retune as things get shuffled around.

Yes, of course, but if you have no interest in BBC 3, just ignore the
    current retune 'advisories'

I know some people that still have BBC News on 120 !

    What's puzzling me is that:

    o I _haven't_ done a retune;
o several channels are (on my set) on their new numbers, and _not_ on
    their old; and
o the set is still telling me a retune is needed.

    For example, Smithsonian was on 56, now 57 - I _haven't_ done a retune,
but can now only find it on 57 (it actually says "Invalid channel" if I
    enter 56).

If I type in 57, I get Smithsonian - and after a coupe of seconds, a
block of text starting "Smithsonian has moved to 57" or something like
that. _But I'm seeing that having selected 57._

Now, having selected it several times (it kept disappearing after a few seconds), I'm _not_ seeing the message when I select 57 (I've even put
the set into and out of standby).

No, your set is not telling you that you need to do a retune, Arqiva is
telling you (and everyone else) by generating the text.

I would guess your TV is set to auto update, so when the appropriate
data told it to change and what to change it just did it, period.

No, it isn't. I never enable that - I like to do the (re)tune at a time
that suits me, as I like to watch it happen. It's still telling me when
I turn it on. (Actually, it doesn't say do a retune, but something like
"new channels are available", but it means the same thing.)

Well like most people you leave settings at default, and that seem to be to
do retunes in the background. I suppose it is going to be accessible via the voice but I guess its going to take a few hours to find that option and
change it. I've been also looking so far in vain for a choice where a beep
or sound is played when an AD program comes on, my old Goodmans set top box does this, but I'm blowed if I can see anything in settings. You can
look at the program guide or the info that comes up when you look to see
whats playing but although it sees when a channel is capable of AD and at
the end orf the description it has the various letters like S or ad this
    seems a trifle vague.
