Asking for a friend, really! On a social forum he posted:
"A number of offerings are flagged as being in UHD on 4k UHD receivers,
in my case however Samsung nu8000 series the picture is unwatchable no
contrast and faded, normal hd offerings are fine as are 4k on Youtube."

Can't find anything related on a google, anyone in these hallowed halls
    have any idea? Ta!

TV with the "wrong kind" of HDR, or fiddled-with settings?

He says 4k OK on youtube. And also now quotes Samsung as saying the BBC
aren't meeting the spec. Errr, only the BBC not meeting the 'spec'? I
imagine beeb R & D had a big hand in writing the spec!

My experience is that meeting the BBC's spec is a PITA.

We've met it, and I just looked at some stuff - it's pretty good here.

I'm a bit surprised that the BBC are feeding HDR stuff to the Samsung
telly if it hasn't passed their certification.

thatis right, the key word is HLG-HDR, not HDR10! Wikipedia can help...
