AN AUDI driver has been handed a hefty penalty after failing to stop at a zebra crossing.
Learner driver Gareth Anthony Hollinshead was proven guilty of one count of failing to accord precedence to a pedestrian at a zebra crossing, one of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and one count of using a vehicle on a road or
public place without insurance.
The court heard from the prosecutor that the 52-year-old had failed to let a pedestrian who was already on the carriageway cross at a Zebra crossing in Cecil Square in Margate, Kent, while behind the wheel of an Audi TT on April 13.
He was also found to have been driving with only a provisional licence, but was not supervised and did not have L plates displayed, and did not have a valid insurance policy in place at the time.
Hollinshead, of Rees Piece, Bishops Castle, was fined a total of £1,100 and received six penalty points for the offences.
He was also ordered to pay prosecution costs of £90 and a £440 victim surcharge.
