• Driver killed after car hits bollards, overturns and catches fire on M6

    A driver was killed after a car hit bollards, overturned then caught fire on a motorway slip road.

    Police have now confirmed the tragedy on the M65 in Lancashire on Saturday, with investigations launched to establish the driver's identity.

    Emergency services were called to the scene on a slip road at junction nine of the motorway, close to Burnley. The incident occurred on the eastbound carriageway, heading towards Burnley.

    A car had collided with the barriers before overturning and catching fire. The driver was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The sex or age of the driver haven't been revealed.

    According to Lancashire Constabulary, the motorist was the only occupant of the vehicle. Investigations are underway to determine their identity, reports Lancs Live.

    Officers are now appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who believes they may be able to help their investigation, to come forward.

    A spokesperson for the force said: "A car driver has very sadly died after a road traffic collision in Burnley. We were called at approximately 10.53am today (September 9) to the eastbound exit slip road of the M65 at junction nine.

    "Officers found that a car had collided with nearside bollards at the top of the slip road, overturned, before catching fire. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

    "Enquiries to confirm the driver’s identity are ongoing. We are appealing for witnesses to the collision and to anyone driving in the area who might have dashcam footage.
