From Simon Mason@21:1/5 to All on Wed Oct 18 05:54:17 2023
A CYCLIST with a camera mounted on his handlebars filmed a van driver overtaking too close to him in the face of oncoming traffic.

The footage was shown at Inverness Sheriff Court when Northumbrian engineer Jeffrey Carr (57) of Ilford Avenue, Cramlington, admitted a charge of careless driving.

The first offender with a clean licence for 40 years, was at the wheel on the A835 between Moy Bridge and Contin on August 26 last year when he passed the cyclist.

Carr had been to Inverness to collect building supplies and was returning to a cottage he was renovating near Lochinver.

Defending, Willie Young said: "He and his family plan to relocate to Lochinver and he travels north once a month to carry out work on the property. The cyclist had not been immediately visible to him and he accepts he did not leave an appropriate
distance between himself and the cyclist."

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald fine Carr £640 with five penalty points, saying: "This was probably a momentary lapse."
